I was forced to go to an ordinary NT school during my entire childhood, since no-one even knew what AS was back then. I resented it. I have never been so horribly mistreated and bullied in my entire life, both by the teachers and by the other children. It go to the point where some of my teachers purposefully hid the fact that I was being beaten and teased from my parents, just because they didn't want "to stir up trouble again". I used to yearn for a special school, free of all the loud, intolerant NT:s.

Still, I'm sure I can't be alone in having been treated like this. I'm sure others here must recognize themselves in at least some of the above.

Although, as I said above, I'm certain I was not alone. Unfortunately.

On the bright side, Alison, when the autistic children grow to be 17 or so and start taking their frustration out on everyone around them, teacher included, you get to say "told you so".

One of my favorite books when I was getting bullied the most was the book "Rage" by Stephen King. I used to dream about being the main character in that book. This was several years before the shootings in Columbine, mind you.

While it is true that class sizes is a big problem, the fact that teachers are told they can "get rid" of the problem by any means they see fit is making it a lot worse.
