Hmmm - that was very interesting.

If the Magnificent 7 with its wholly manufactured romance at centre stage was  "gritty realism," what would truth be called?
Is it a flavour of the month/season? With issues to be orphaned when popular mood turns to something else?
I've noticed this trend...some books more decent then others (ex. Different Like Me: My Autism Heros)
I hope that writers remain realilistic; as it wouldn't be good speading incorret information.
I suppose it's better than being cast as the evil deviants like in Law and Order SVU and shows of that ilk.

Even back in the 70's, there was an episode of Quincy featuring a boy with autism. From what I saw of the child, he would have been HFA. I think this portrayal was much more sympathetic than those in some of the more recent crime shows.

Back then, they didn't have the benefit of all the knowledge that has subsequently come to light regarding HFA.

My Rotten Towers project will make an answer to that by showing abuse cases through the eyes of its lead-enforcer-type figure. When I get it on TV, Dick Wolf will wish I had never been born.

I think the Quincy portrayal of the boy with autism was brilliant considering the times. We saw the boy having a small meltdown at a birthday party because of sensory overstimulation and his parents being subjected to all sorts of intrusions from do-gooders who wanted him removed from their care.
