That was really interesting, Mish..thanks for posting it.

In my opinion, studies about neurodifference must be inextricably linked to studies about neurotypicality.  As an analogy, one of the difficulties facing cancer research is a lack of knowledge about how normal cells work at the level of compex signalling networks.  There's so much to learn about the brain, and what genes do what..and how different levels of gene expression during, say, fetal development can affect the resulting wiring.
The greatest irony, is that the it probably IS genetic, and his incredible maths skill may well originate from Aspergers.

I've read his work on superstring theory in the past and it gives even me a headache grappling with branes, strings, and multidimensional topography. Just glad I don't actually have to work in that field or my brain'd melt and run out my ears.

My first impression: Audrey would be a very valuable ally if her interest in the rights of minorities were to expand to include autistic civil rights.

Anybody think we ought to contact her?

Mr. Shestack's group, for example, gave a "genius grant" of $100,000 to Huda Zoghbi of Houston's Baylor College of Medicine after she found the gene for Rett's Syndrome, a disorder similar to autism that affects girls.

Now being used for prenatal testing and abortion of Rett's babies.

CAN's genius brigade is very efficient indeed.
