One possible idea for autistic pride day is to have an autistic pride parade in london. This will of course only be possible if there is enough interest.

Any ideas on transport arrangements, funding and location?
I got some ideas-- it starts out with a person dressed as the AFF logo running down the street, followed by a float with you (Gareth) and amy standig on there, waving, with other autistic people surrounding them also waving. Behind them, even more autistics would march, followed by a bunch of other stuff like that.

there are 2 ways to do this:
as part of some pre-existing event or if we can get lots of autistics together with banners.

the second option might be more sensational and get more media coverage but will be more difficult to organise.
Is there a park where we can all meet and have a 'mass-stim'?

Alas it is unlikely I would ever be able to attend because I rarely go out during the summer sun and London would be a massive sensory overload for me, I only just managed to get down to the town center in Brighton today and back again, even then I was having trouble walking in a straight line or cross the road safley. Cities are definately an NT invention Sad

What do people think the minimum number of participants would be for it to go ahead ? I think it would be 100's rather than a small crowd. Maybe a Target number of likely marchers would give people who find it difficult to go out more incentive if the time was drawing near and the Target number wasn't quite reached ?

(Like Brightman, I would find it very difficult to get to London / do the march.)

Transport- Maybe there could be a page/thread here where people can list their location to start with then transport could be co-ordinated from points near these locations.

Funding- maybe a virtual raffle (is that possible Gareth ?)

I think there are quite a few musicians amongst us - maybe we could combine some of our best tracks on a cd and offer it for sale- all profits to the march / AFF costs etc.

Thrillseeker.

I think Gareth suggested London as an idea, but personally I would not want to cope with going there.
Any other ideas for locations? Maybe we could have a conference/meeting on that day and not a march/parade with entertainment on after the meeting.
What about Birmingham as being a central location?
Luckily we have a lot of time to discuss and fund raise so keep the ideas coming in.
I'm kind of stuck as to why I should be proud of something I have no control over. It's not like I had to do anything to get it :?

I'd go on a 'Fuck you if you don't like it!' march, but the pride thing is lost on me  :?
Well being proud is an answer to the likes of CAN who like to spread the myth that those with autism are desperate for a cure, and that they are our saviours.
Its a positive message to send out to the general public.
If you dont feel proud you could always go for "I'm not ashamed".
"I'm not ashamed"

We can have a big Autistic Pride Parade in NYC. Just last month, my Wiccan friends and I (I'm not Wiccan) attended a Wiccan Pride fair. Tons of people were there, and we had a great time. The woman who organized it announced that over 40,000 people passed through the fair!  8)  There's an organization called GRASP http://www.grasp.org that does NYC stuff and if any of you guys are around, we can have a BIG event Smile
That sounds great, I know we have at least one member in NY, but obviously there must be many people on the spectrum living there.
Even though its a long way off, permission may be needed to hold a parade well in advance in NYC.
Do you know who to contact to ask about that kind of thing?
A city dept, to ask them all about it.
