Autism Speaks and Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation are Both Winners in Apprentice Finale - Contestants to Raise Awareness and Funds to Support Charities

(New York, New York – December 6, 2005) Autism Speaks and the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation today announced that they will participate in the final two episodes of the hit NBC-TV show The Apprentice. In the final task, to be assigned by Donald Trump on Thursday’s program and concluding with the season finale December 15, one set of contestants will be assigned to produce an event to benefit Autism Speaks and the other an event to benefit the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation.

Autism Speaks is dedicated to increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorder and its effect on individuals and families, and is committed to raising money to fund scientists who are searching for the causes, treatments, prevention and cure. The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation is the worldwide leader in the fight against pediatric AIDS and other serious and life-threatening illnesses affecting children. Mark Burnett Productions selects the charities that participate in The Apprentice, and Mr. Trump makes all decisions about contestants.

“Both Donald Trump and I strongly believe that investing in charitable causes is just good business,” said Mark Burnett, executive producer of The Apprentice, and board member of the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.

“Building awareness of this devastating and prevalent disorder is among our top priorities,” said Alison Singer, Senior Vice President of Autism Speaks. “We hope the large audience that tunes in to The Apprentice will learn a good deal about autism and the terrible toll it takes on families”.

"The Foundation is very appreciative of the support we receive from both Mr. Trump and Mr. Burnett, as they share our concern about doing all we can to help children with HIV/AIDS all over the world," said Pam Barnes, COO of the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. “Philanthropy has been given an important role on The Apprentice, and for that we are all winners.”

The Apprentice airs on NBC-TV on Thursdays from 9 PM ET/PT.
I would rather they give the money to help children with AIDS.  If the money goes to autism causes it will just most likely fund genetic research to eliminate the autistic population or to ABA therapists.  I have heard that these people charge families $40,000 per year for therapy.  That money could feed a whole lot of little children.
I've heard estimates of up to $60-75,000 being paid by families to get ABA for their children. It's disturbing honestly. And the media is just pushing the profits to the 'industry of autism' off parents fears caused by the media promoting misconceptions to sensationlize things and promote the negative side of autism wtihout fully looking at the positive side. and twisted thing is, the money they'll raise for Autism Speaks would have been better off in the AIDs charity organization where the kids will die... and where the autistic ones will live as they don't have a deadly, devastating disease.
I look upon this ABA-thing, if I understand it correctly, as a semi-positive thing. Hear me out first.

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. I think it was Newton who said that, and Newton was allegedly an Aspie. Seriously, we should just make a music video listing all the things normies should kiss an Aspie's feet for. Anyway, back to the gist... what I mean is that these children subjected to ABA or what have you will become tougher, stronger, and more powerful Aspie adults. Do you honestly think I got to be the way I am because I got out of bed on the wrong side one morning? No, it was because a million different morons decided "oh, he's a bad child" and decided I had to be punished. Heaven help them when I hit the bestseller list and start to demonstrate what an equal or opposite reaction can really entail.

I think that is the worst intro I have ever seen. The music was the worst bit.

is the picture of that guy peter bell of  CAN
That's one of the worst intros I've seen, especially the music. I avoided that show, and I might write them about it saying that more money should go for AIDS research than preventing more Einsteins.
