Your son's finger muscles may be atrophied. Get a doctor to check the condition of the muscles in his hands. I also have major problems with finger movement (those models I paint take a lot of struggling), so I can understand the writing problem.
My other comment is basically that if you are not a hundred percent sure your son needs it, do not ask for it. Especially if it involves being put on a register. And those parents trying to get their children on the register in spite of their normalcy make me want to be sick.
I also find handwriting incredibly difficult, to the point where I only write in block, if at all by hand, unless signing something. When I was in school, some children were allowed to use plastic moulds around pencils that made gripping the pencil a good deal less difficult. Perhaps you could look into some of these for your son? They work beautifully in terms of making the process less insurmountable.
A lot of my contempt for Australians is in their self-bias. To look at the commercial network coverage, you could be forgiven for thinking the 2000 Olympics were just one big swimming carnival. And don't get me started on the Olympic baseball grounds. It is not a coincidence that I use Goblins to represent them in my writing, or that said Goblins think they are great until they encounter members of better civilisations.
I find it very unfair that schools grade you on penmanship. Not all students can write perfectly, especially ones like us. I remember having to write a poem in elementary school and the teacher wouldn't except it so I had to go back and rewrite it 3 times. Not to mention my mom still gets after me for my writing. It gets so annoying after a while.
my handwriting can be illegible at times, espcally if i rush it. i had computer assistance during my ap exams and it really helped my writing to be more legible than if i hand wrote it. my handwriting got a bit better over the years, but isnt the neatest out there.
