The autism wiki (
http://www.autism-wiki.com ) has been locked for a while as we have had ongoing problems with spam bots, most recently they attacked pages last week, but as it was locked only did minimal damage.
I want to re-open the wiki so that anyone can edit, but we need people who can monitor the pages for spam and deletions, either from bots or spammers.
Wikipedia has hundreds of people monitoring it so they can fix problems very quickly, we need at least 5 people who would be able to check the 'recent changes' at random times during the day/night and rectify any problems.
Anyone who can help?
The page says "Sexuality
Autistic adults have, in general, differences in sexuality from the norm. Many more are asexual than in the average population. It is believed that there is a slightly higher pecentage of gays, lesbians, bisexual, and transgendered autistics than in the average population.
Bisexual or homosexual Aspies may find more potential for sex and/or relationships in the gay community where there is less emphasis on conformity. Girls and women who are autistic can have more chance at success in relationships, generally speaking, than men. This is due to differences in social requirements, where a man is often expected to ask a girl for a date, rather than vice versa.
Living in a society where long-time relationships and starting a family are the norm it can be very hard for socially inexperienced men with Asperger's to find a partner and some stay away from dating for that reason.
Some of those on the autistic spectrum are celibate by choice, feeling that they are asexual, or that there are more important things in life. Others have resigned themselves to celibacy due to the fact that romantic or sexual relationships can be much harder to find due to a misunderstanding of social skills and the difficulty of finding a suitable partner.
Aspie/aspie couples are often more succesful than aspie/neurotypical couples; yet this is not done often as aspie gender ratios has a lot more diagnosed males than females. It is thought that there is often underdiagnosis of females.
Sexual feelings may develop later than usual, and relationships can start in the 20s and 30s, rather than in teenage years, as for neurotypicals."
It says a slightly higher percentage are gay, I dont think that would make someone be bullied just because of that comment. If people want to bully aspies, they seem to find an excuse anyway.
It wouldnt be fair to LGBT aspies to not mention the facts.
I agree with Amy, sorry Loner. But I'd be offended if she took *Away* that comment.
I think that Kinsey is right--most people, if they are completely honest, are not exclusively homosexual (kinsey 0) or exclusively heterosexual (kinsey 6)--especially if you incorporate fantasies as well as behavior into the assessment. Maybe aspies are more willing to entertain a middle ground. On the fantasy level, I'm about a 5, but on the behavior level I'm not on the scale, since the actual mechanics of sex, or that kind of body contact, bring up all sorts of problems--basically, I hate it and it makes me feel alienated from myself and others.
But I'd go along with the quoted text--leave it as is, is my vote. Except that maybe female aspies also have intimate relationships difficulties as well as males. I don't know that socialization differences help all that much.
This is all interesting, but where are the sources for this information?
