“I think I’m helping my fellow man by labeling all the stupid people in the world,” he explained. “It’s not a crime, it’s a public service.
Indeed. More of the same please Mr. Sakai

Terific!!!

We had this kind of spirit in college where foreign students where al to happy to help us Brits out with useful(?) phrases in their mother tongues...
"geri o shita" anyone?
i remember seeing this a long time ago at my local anime forum.
why would somone want to tatoo somthing they dont understand on them, idiotes!
Gwynfryn, the difference here is that you can laugh later when you find out what you really have been saying. I still laugh about some of the strange things I said when I first came to Canada from Germany 25 years ago. But it is not easy (in fact pretty much impossible) to get rid of tattoos. And if you do, it will leave ugly scars.
Even though I agree that these people were stupid for wanting Japanese sayings on them when they aren't Japanese, they got ripped off and shamed. I myself have been bullied, shamed and made fun of too often in my life to find this article the least bit amusing.
Uschi
But wouldn't you have had the good sense to check out the phrase you wanted first? One doesn't need to learn Japanese in order to recognise an image!
Regardless of their 'status' they were using a foriegn culture to look cool and that tends to piss off people who are proud of their heritage. I feel the same way about people who get so called 'Celtic' tatoos on them when they don't even understand the first thing about Celts, it's insulting and the designs are rarely anything to even do with Celtic patterns.
Brightman put it rather well.
As said in the article, prissy sorority/fraternity boys and girls think that they're the coolest people ever because they have symbols from Japanese tatooed on their body. Again, as said in the article: It dosn't mean *** to them.
And also, I've being bullied as well, so I find it rather ironic that the popular people get owned instead of trying to bully the less popular ones

.
It's been said before in this topic, but these NTs who get the tattoos more than likely have no clue what they're getting done on their body. What if the symbol means somethign silly like "piece of Charmin bologna" or "I am an iceburg" or something like that (No offense to Japanese people, but there could be symbols that mean those. It is possible.) thatcould lead to total embarrassment if people knew they meant that.

This is definetely urban myth territory.....
Ok, a little note: The stuff there is about as true as the stuff at the Onion.
Did you know this before you posted the link?
Urban myths can be fun though, they often have a moral aspect, like a warning- watch out or this could happen to you.
