Ive seen scary things happen to people on hard drugs!
Many people change when on it and when of it they long for more and might be so frustrated that they become agressive.

Many people like to get drunk from time to time & although alcohol is a dangerous drug, an occasional & I emphasize occasional binge isn't terribly harmful as long as you don't drive or are one of those people who become violent when you've had a drink.

I think that the important question is why do you want to try Acid or E or anything like this?
Is it because you find life so unbearable? which from your other posts you do.

Please listen to Emmy & spectrum_ child they are right.

I will tell you something
Two weeks ago, my older son had his drink spiked with  (A&E think ) E, he was lucky in so far as he had not had much to drink & went back to his friend's house with the others.
He collapsed & was in a coma, he was navy blue, eyes wide open & non responsive, the paramedics did everything they could to rouse him from the coma to no effect until they gave him oxygen.
IF he had been alone or in bed when this happened, he may very well have died.

Ironically, I started doing drugs as a teen to "fit in."  Once people knew that you were a head, any strange behaviors were attributed to being high on something. About 10 years later I stopped doing drugs because I didn't like where the 30-something druggies were in their personal lives.  I just sort of looked at them and said, "Nah, that's not where I want to be in 10 years." And I left. Very simple.

Same here & boy has it got me into difficulties.Rolleyes

I didn't take drugs when young, in the same way that most of you mean grass  etc, but in the past had access to some prescription drugs, I tried the occasional ones (  like many Doctors & nurses that I have discussed this with ), didn't really like how they made me feel, so I didn't do it again.

I was 11 years old the first time an adult accused me of being "on something."  I didn't have a clue what he was talking about, but his anger and persistence made me feel very frightened.  As for my drug use, let's just say people thought I was high a lot more often than I was actually high. It's really bad what it does, and what's worse, the medical community (GPs and the like) have absolutely NO sympathy for you whatsoever, who knows how many times a former addict suffering from health problems has to see a GP and can't broach the topic because doctors think addiction is "your own decision."  Once an addict, it no longer is your decision--but GPs don't think that way.

Over here ( generally) an addict who seeks help will have a great deal of support, but if you are a smoker of ordinary cigarettes....forget it.

A heavy drinker can have a new liver, but a smoker can't have a simple op.

When necrotizing fasciitis was a problem here recently, the SS were out on the streets ( or so we were told) looking for junkies in case they had it & needed treatment.

Previously I have always had adverse comments made by doctors for smoking, but since having depression....not a word.

Emmy Wrote:
Why?
Because they dont want to scare you?

No because they accept that trying to talk someone who is depressed into giving up 'a crutch' such as smoking / drinking.
#1 will not work
#2 may cause the depression to worsen.
#3 is a waste of time

A man I know was constantly acused of being on drugs back when he aproached, and passed through pubity. His eyes bulged more and more and everybody was convinced he was on something. He then went to visit a relative he did not see very often, who said "so you have thyroid problems too then?". This man did not know what she meant, but she was reffering to another reletive. His parents and friends felt devastated that they had made so many acusations when there was a medical cause for the symptoms. He recently had an operation to try to fix the problems, and now has a scar on his neck.

This also commonly happens with diabetics & victims of sub arachnoid haemorrhage amongst others, many have been banged up by the police who have thought they were drunk !
Yes, I am a heavy smoker.

Everyone tells me my caffeine addiction and the voluntary insomnia (staying awake at night, buzzed on caffeine--well I prefer to work at night, mmmmkay?) is so bad for me, the cause of all my health problems, etc, therefore I am thankful to see I'm not the only one here who has an ill-advised habit or two.

I do wonder if the combination of uneven sleeping habits (my sleep schedule/hours slept, changes almost daily) and caffeine addiction is the cause of my worsening health problems.

Batman, don't be so hard on yourself, some people are naturally 'owls' = night people, some are' larks' = day people.

I am naturally an Owl, I don't easily get up in a morning & quite happily be working at 2am.
Fortunately for me, after I had my oldest child, I was able to work night shift & that was great for me.

For many years , whilst on days I struggled with getting up at 5,30am for work, I did it, but it didn't help me to sleep any earlier at night, so often I was managing on 3-4 hours sleep=not good  = unhealthy!
On my days off I was sleeping very long hours to catch up on lost sleep.

I'm not working now, so I have allowed my body to follow what comes naturally, today I got up later than usual....1pm , but it was well after 4am before I went to bed, never mind sleep last night.

I don't worry about it, all that I can say regarding [uyou[/u] is that it will not increase any health problems & that if you are an owl & re employment...... night shift might suit better.

Mahler5 , I'm sorry that you are having problems...I hope that things work out for you.

Re Thyroid.
I don't know.
I certainly don't have any thyroid problems, I've had a few tests for that over the last few years due to ' tiredness & ? SAD '. ....Now correctly diagnosed with depression & this I think will soon be changed to PTSD.
I personally have only known of one nurse who had thyroid problems, & she was thyrotoxic...but that is only my experience.

Night shift isn't really a social job ( thank God ), so there could well have been others that I wasn't aware of.

Mabe working night-shift changes the bio-rythm?

It can , but some people are born that way.

I suppose it would have always been good for some one to be able to stay awake in the cave in order to alert the others' in case of danger.Wink

So it could be evolutionary....like ASSmile
