It seems that in the real, offline world that there are very few history buffs(I've found one, and we did not get along). I was wondering if there were any history buffs at all in the Aspie community, and if it becomes a niche thing or stays generalized.
I have had specific special interests of points in history such as the Home Front during WW2.
I have certain areas where I go all out, i.e Mongolian history, Zulu's, Geronimo to the extent that I can. In others I will learn what is needed and useful, and not a whole lot more.
Subatai,
You probably already know all this, but just in case...

I had heard about that before, but I have also heard in the book that originally got me into the Mongol Empire that the last of his decendents was killed by the Taliban after 9/11 as retrobution for all of the things that the Mongols apparently kept them from doing(such as not growing opium, developing proper industry, or losing the radicalism).
Depends on the kind of history. I really like classic Roman culture (and hence also Romulans in Star Trek) and Greek and Egyptian mythology. That's one of the reasons why I'm such a Stargate fan Wink
A shocking lack of TV shows have been based off of the Mongol Empire, despite all of the progress that it made. My other favourite generals, Shaka and Geronimo, have also been frequently made fun of by mass media. And people wonder why I hate mankind so much...
I love ancient history, The Mongol Empire, Ancient Japan, Early Middle East, Ancient Africa,  all fascinate me.   Ghengis Khan was a very fascinating person.  I read voraciously any new discoveries of the ancient world.  By the way, my definition of the ancient world is the Mongol Empire all the way back to Neolithic times.

Peace
Fascinating. Do you read much on Mahmud of Ghazni, I keep wanting to learn more about him but Wikipedia comes up with little, as does my history teacher.

No, but, now I'll be looking it up to learn more about him as well.

Peace

I think ancient Chinese culture is cool too... hence I'm a Jarre fan (he works very intensively on a China theme) and I'm a huge fan of Firefly!
I am definitely a big history buff. The History Channel is one of my favorite channels. I love reading about any kind of history, but my real niche area is Soviet history (1917-1991) and the history of the Cold War. I also like World War II history.
big history buff here, but really only as far back as the 20th century. My special niche is WWII and the interwar years, especially dictatorships of that time.
Big history buff here. Especially on WAR.
What is especially interesting about history is reading it from different points of view.  My brother has a masters degree in ancient history and told me that  history is always changing due to different people rewriting it according to their point of view.  The fun comes in with the researchers and archeologists.

One can imagine the history books that will be written about us thousands of years from now (it the earth survives that long.  I am sure she will kill us off sooner or later).  What fragments and records will survive that actually show a true picture of our times?
