History happens to be my pet subject. I found a lovely little book called Timetable of history. These days I partition history in four parts A.D. Anno Domini.  I refer to them as 1st, 2nd, 3rd snd 4th quarter.

The useful thing (to me) is how they roughly correspond to the Roman empire, the Dark ages, The Middle Ages and early modern/modern (Renaissance/modern)

Aftet that, they get subdivided again.

A shocking lack of TV shows have been based off of the Mongol Empire, despite all of the progress that it made...

A few passing references, though. In "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", the man who is trying to demolish Arthur Dent's house was a direct male-line descendant of Genghis Khan. And also there is Ming the Merciless and his empire - the Mongols. Okay. I'm just being silly.

I love History channel, but not really into anything from early 1800s on. Mostly like Ancient history. Especially Greek. Not into 20th Century at all. More recently developed a secondary interest in medieval, Renaissance and even as far as the early modern age and the Napoleonic Wars.

Tried to be interested in stuff I was less interested in, but never seemed to manage it.

I am a history buff, but I find that I am fascinated with weapons and vehicles. Certain weapons from ancient to modern would be swords, spears, shield, catapults (such as onagers), as well as cannons and guns. And vehicles including Leonardo's Tank as well as hot air ballons. These two key topics have always interested me the most, and yet I don't know why.
In college, I was the guy who always raised his hand.  Class conversations came down to me and the graduate students.  Those were fun times.  Yes, I love reading history, although I seem to be reading more science and math now.  At the time, I was a politics/history junky, and I still am.

A True Monotheist

Hillel says, "If I am not for myself, who will be for me? But if I am only for myself, who am I? If not now, when?" Ethics of the Fathers, 1:14
wasn't there something recently in the media on all the Ghengis Khan genes in the world's population- how prevalent his genes are probably because he fathered so many kids?
