Conference Set on Autism

Ten years ago, one in 2,500 children were diagnosed with autism. Today, autism has reached alarming rates, affecting one in every 166 children. Autism is a lifelong disorder that impairs cognition and communication, as well as motor and social behaviors.
On Friday, November 18th, a conference will be held at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University to assist professionals, parents and educators in navigating through the maze of options for treating children with autism.
This is the 12th annual conference presented by the Long Island Professional Education Network (LIPEN). More than 300 educators, social workers, parents and social administrators are expected to attend this year’s conference entitled "Navigating the Autism Puzzle."
Workshops include: "Autism: The Cause, the Controversy," "Classroom Management," "Applied Behavior Analysis," "Parenting a Child with Autism," "Biomedical Approach to Autism," and "Recreational Programs for Parents and Children."
The conference will be held from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Hillwood Commons on the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, 720 Northern Boulevard, Brookville. At various workshops, experts will present and discuss topics related to coping with the rising population of children and autism.
