Im new on this forum, and i seize this occasion to see if my thoughts fit well to the AFF views... Here's my POV:
I am against "cure" in the sense the society sees it. Society do HATE and FIGHT every dissenters, minorities, people who are different from the masses (for example sci-fi fans, RPGames lovers, political and ecological activists outside the two main parties - dem and rep, hackers - overclockers, rappers, homosexuals, secular people, etc...) . The motto of the society is the following: OBEY - WORK - CONSUME - MARRY AND HAVE CHILDREN so that they (your children) can repeat these 4 steps... Therefore, any dreamer, or simply any thinker, who can reflect on the goals of society - destroying the earth, wiping out entire species and populations, so that we can keep driving SUVs and eat industrialised cheap food and etc... - is a threat to the society...
Autists and AS are dangerous in this sense because they tend to have a strong culture, knowledge and intelligence, they live OUTSIDE the masses, going rather more to libraries than malls (which is a complete HERESY from a capitalist point of view).
I mean, at a time where masses attention are centered on American Idol or the latest Fox TV soap, who cares about books and knowledge ?
And so, here is the sense of "cure" for society: wiping out every peculiarities and differences that you have, that make you so special, and above all erasing once and for all this dangerous and disturbing sense of curiosity you get, turning you into an obedient and docile pawn...
I refuse this, and I hope it sticks to the AFF views. Let me know...
However, I am for helping autists and AS people. We do have special needs indeed, but we know and the psychiatrists know better than no one what we do need. We won't let any politicians or religious zealots or any extremists decide of our fate...
