Nah, not really. The springs in the torso broke pretty quickly, so now it's kinda stuck in the same pose all the time. But using manikins aren't really my style, anyway. I'm more of a free-hand scribbler.
And you daughter can take all the time in the world to think of it. Many artists, both young and old, aspies and others, feels embarrassed about showing their art to the public. It's like how many people feel nervous about talking to crowds or performing on a stage in front of an audience. She don't have to show her drawings if she don't feel like it, nothing to worry about.
I thought of this one today--a lava lamp
That's certainly a present I would like. I saw my first lava lamp when I was about 7, at the dentist's office. It had pink blobs and was one of the prettiest things I ever saw.
It can be hard to buy for us because we don't always know what we want as a present. If we collect a particular thing or things, it makes it easier to think of a present - just get another to add to the collection. Some aspies also don't make a big fuss over birthdays or Christmas so that makes it tricky too.
If somebody asks me what I want for my birthday or Christmas, I'm often stumped but during the year, I usually spot a number of things in the shops that I'd like.
I have to try a body sock. I did the same thing with a blanket and liked it.
I also liked putting a blanket over the heat vent (central heating, safe, no risk of fire*). (Give oneself a "heat bath")
* possible risk of CO poisoning because we had heat from oil.
We hadn't had that house since Reagan was president, though. Oil was cheap then at least compared to current prices.
The last house we all had as a family had inefficient electric baseboard heating, and we finally got a heat pump a year after Desert Storm.
When Mom and I (and later just me) got apartments it was natural gas all the way.
Look, if someone is going to the trouble to celebrate my birthday or Xmas I'm gonna appreciate it.
Problem with receiving a gift from someone usually means one needs to reciprocate the favour. But we do have a good size xmas celebration between relatives and friends. I bring what I think the others would like and they bring things that they think myself and my family like.
Same goes for Easter and their birthdays, anniversaries etc.
