Last night i watched Oliver Stone's JFK for the tenth time or so. I still find this movie so thrilling every time i see it.
Do you believe that the murder on JFK actually was a coup d'état? I certainly do.

No. I know it wasn't because I shot him; I was bored.
I have big doubts about it after researching all the details, most obviously the "magic bullet" theory.
Be nice to see a film made about "what if" he had survived....
hawen't seen it.
my faworit is the red dwarf version.

Er, do you mean doubts about it being a conspiracy? I got the feeling the theory was pretty flimsy except for the magic bullet problem!
As for "what if"; another stab at starting World War Three? We only just survived the first one! All that paranoia about missiles being sited way off America's coast, when they already had missiles right up against the USSR's borders (and twice the fire power!).
Gwyn I feel it is some sort of conspiracy (conspiracy theories are fun).
Any opinion on the car crash of Princess Diana?
All very dodgy isnt it.
I really believe it was a conspiracy. He couldn't have been killed just by one man and the Zapruderfilm clearly shows a headshot.
It just is too obvious that there was no profound investigation, i think.
But i think the death of princess Diana was just an onfortunate accident.

More than one bullet yes! And, as to the Diana incident, my stupid/bigoted/wonderful Uncle said immediately "the secret service done it..." and at the same time there was a hit and run in the UK where the cops traced the trace of paint within 24 hours, but the french police couldn't?
And then there's the (alleged) rape of the schoolgirl in Britanny, which seems cut and dried now, except, according to french reports, someone had unlocked the door to the dormitory, and other occupants had heard "noises" coming from her bed, as if it wasn't uncommon?
Although I wouldn't be surprised if the American goverment/intelligence services did kill JFK, I saw a documentary in which the whole 'magic bullet' theory was debunked. Using a computer reconstruction generated from the film footage, it argues convincingly that the 'magic bullet' theory is unnecessary (using angles of trajectory/positions of the passengers in the car etc.) However, this does not exclude the further possibility that Oswald was brainwashed into doing it. There could obviously be some flaw in whatever theory or evidence that is presented so I don't think we will ever know for sure. What I find interesting is the way in which the mass media moulds the perception/opinions of the masses. Most people in America have formed their opinions of this event as a direct result of watching Stone's film.
In a similar way, people are forming their ideas/opinions about A.S from the largely negative representations in the media. As with other minority groups, whenever someone who is autistic does something wrong/illegal, the fact that they are autistic is mentioned (as also happens if the person is black).
The genre of the 'autistic narrative' is depicted in terms which seek to pre-define it as one of tragedy- people are already influenced by this when they start to discuss issues relating to autism, and, as has been pointed out on this site, this makes it more likely that parents of autistic children will want a 'cure' and prospective parents more likely to ask for screening, followed by abortion.
More recently, the 'trendiness' of A.S has been picked up on and exploited in novels, and films are being made with A.S as their theme: I am concerned therefore at the likely effect of these representations on the general public.
Hope this post wasn't too long.
Thrillseeker.
the term "emotional dysfunction" (a quote from mozart and the whale) comes to mind here for some reason....
You raise some good points Thrillseeker, its very hard to get a positive message over to the general public when the mass media can highlight selectively.
Such as Sjongfrus post from Hello magazine, we will see 1000 of this type to one actual positive story.

It's certainly quite suspicious how several people involved in the JFK case died very soon afterwards. It almost seems as if there was some kind of damage control/cover up going on.
