I'm just curious to see real quick if anyone else is from out here. As for me I'm brand new to this board, have been in a lot of others, and have noticed that my area is pretty dry on other people dx'd. As it is right now I'm in a pay support group that costs about $55 per visit (facility rent + the psych's time) and even though it's dedicated to social skills and what not it's really the only way I've been able to be in touch with anyone. Yeah, I really doubt there is much of an AS community out here to speak of but I'm still curious I guess to see just how many other self-aknowledged aspies (dx'd or otherwise) are out here.
Hi Techstep, are there other aspies at the support group?

It seems that if there were other aspies attending, either at the same time or on separate appointments, if you all managed to team up and make your own little group, you could save $200 each week altogether!

I think we'll be stuck with that arrangment for a while. Yeah, there are 4 other guys in the group and the psych who's heading it was the one who brought us all together and in addition will be the one talking arround, sending out information to all the other psychs in the area, and overall reaching people I could never hope to. Issue is yeah, it is costing us money, but I'd feel like I was backstabbing if I decided to just say "Thanks for getting everyone together, we'll take if from here". I'd at least wait a year or so and if we get to a point where every last topic is worn out and there's nothing left to talk about on the plain that the group's set up, I'd imagine I might have a good arguement, especially if there's someone who has the time and energy, to kinda convert it over to a G.R.A.S.P. chapter. Still though, I feel kinda shady even thinking of it - especially since the guy said the group might double or triple in the next few months and since I'm still depending on him in a way.

I understand what you mean, is it possible to mention to others in the group that in the future you could have a separate group aswell?

Its possible that other members may be struggling to afford it, and if they dropped out you could lose contact.

Remember that the person running the group is getting paid well and has a vested interest in keeping you going for as long as possible.

We've at least been passing emails arround so it wouldn't be tough trop eachother a line if they did. As of now, I think that's just a risk we have to handle.

Yeah, and from his standpoint after he's done a lot of work to get us together, took 2 months to find a place to hold the meetings, and then went about trying to promote the group on his own time he'd feel more than a little betrayed. Reason it's hard not to care is I've known this guy for like 10 years now, being ADHD he really isn't that far from us as it is - makes it tougher when you and everyone else likes the person in question.
