Whilst searching for information on chelation I found the site of Dr Garry Gordon, which states he is 'Considered by many to be the Father of Oral Chelation'.
It says he has been promoting it for 40 years, this must have had a massive upsurge in interest recently, as surely 40 years ago people were not using it for autism. It was used for heart conditions primarily.
Now his site is mainly focused towards autism, including numerous books.

On Dr. Gordon's site he has a page of articles, with titles such as -

Mercury Poisoning
If he has been working in the field, and pioneered it, why wasn't it noticed before that autism was supposedly caused by heavy metals?
Why has it ony been since the MMR debate was proven wrong, and people targeted vaccines contents, specifcally mercury in the form of thimerosal?
So the equation becomes Vaccines must be to blame = mercury in vaccines = must remove mercury.
Then rapidly chelation doctors are in big demand to remove it.
If the supposed mercury levels were actually discovered by doctors in studies of autism, and they then tried to find the source of the mercury, and found that it was coming from vaccines, it could have some validity.
Instead it has been a case of finding a 'criminal' (mercury) and then trying to find the crime.
One of the leading campaigners for mercury being the culprit in the autism debate used to chat to me, he would talk often about how it was so obvious mercury caused his sons autism. But he was so obviously aspie in his obsession, perseveration and language.
