We tried to stop a person from describing Hasit as an animal, that person signed again with even more devastating comment.

Read and see what you think about this person's behaviour. It will nice if you all sign with a positive comment. Thank you!
If it was a comment from someone on the petition you should be able to edit it out.

A note to any members signing the petition, if you put your address it will be shown publically on the petition.

Has Hasit commited any crime to be put in a prison? This case seems shocking.
I don't know the man or his family, but whatever they have done, the son doesn't deserve that treatment and the words of that signer. We created his website and petition, hoping to help Hasit gets his freedom. He is not getting any better in the care of the government.

Thank you for caring!
Wow.  This is an appalling story.

Here's an excerpt from a letter that Hasit's father wrote to someone at theOffice of the Public Guardian and Trustee (i.e. the folks that are "taking care" of him now) >>

The combination and interaction of the several above medications have reacted and caused side effects.  The medications have caused more harm than has helped him.

Having given all these medications, there has been no improvement of Hasit. Instead Hasit’s condition has regressed further over the last four years.  His past Lab reports have shown the signs of dehydration, high/low Cholesterol and sign of liver damage.

He is secluded and has no direct human contact for almost last four years.  His self-abusive behaviour has increased significantly.  Constant and severe head banging, hands banging, kicking, biting his hands, slapping his face with force.  He has developed fear from the caregivers having him chemically, physically and mechanically restrained, slamming the doors on his hands and fingers, physical abuse by punching and kicking.

Recently, we have noticed his uncontrollable involuntary muscular movement on his face and hands have also been more noticeable.  Spitting and making squeaking sounds for extended period of time was also observed.  Sometimes he makes the facial and body gesture of being in extreme pain, as if his nerves are shot.  He crunches himself in the infantile position on the floor. He has lost appetite and has no stability when he walked.  Sleepless and restless nights and looked tired. He has developed photo/light sensitivity.

Although there is no medical evidence of him having swallowing problems, he is restricted from eating the normal food and he is deprived from eating his most favorite food.  Hasit is a vegetarian. His food is pureed and minced which is not appealing for him to eat.  The starchy pureed and minced food and toast/bread becomes very sticky and dry.  On April 21, 2004 the sticky food got stuck onto his throat.  The sensitivity from the dry throat may have caused irritation in his throat.  He tried to push it in with the handle of the plastic spoon, which broke.  He kept pushing it in the throat, while continued to bleed with the sharp broken edges of the handle.  Finally the broken handle got stuck in the throat.  The staff watched him but nobody helped him.  The ambulance was called in.  By the time it came, he had stopped bleeding and he managed to get the broken spoon out from his throat (according to the incident report).  Therefore, he was not taken to the hospital.  To date, he has not been examined by his family physician for health issues.

He is not given spoon or fork anymore to eat, a tooth brush to brush his teeth, shaving razor for him to shave, crayons to write/colour or any toys to play with, since April 21, 2004.  His teeth are very dirty and his beard is growing bigger and bigger.  It is uncomfortable to him.  Some of his agitation is part of him not being able to brush his teeth and the skin is itchy because of the hair on his beard.

I would like you to refer to my previous letters of my concerns regarding the medications given to my son, Hasit Khagram, as attached.

Hasit has never displayed self-injurious behaviours in such an extent while under our care.  He has not displayed such an extreme SIB during our visit with him.  I do not believe that he is causing self-injury to himself intentionally.  The recent Self-Injurious Behaviours, could be the side effects of the multitude of medications he is taking as well as being in the isolation for too long a period.  Having no effective treatment plan, the neglect of care and treatment, lack of human contact, deprivation of his favorite food, family and friends restrictions, culture and religious are some of the causes for his severe digression.

Sounds like the neighbors got in on the action and turned Hasit in >>

Until last summer, Hasit lived for seven years in a house with a back-yard swimming pool on a leafy Welland street about a 10-minute drive from his parents' home in neighbouring Fonthill.  Mrs. Shah and her husband, Welland family physician Vinod Shah, bought the house for Hasit when he was sprung from a psychiatric hospital after his mother's first round with the courts back in 1993.

With CAN$116,000 in funding from the province -- not out of line for families caring for severely disabled people at home -- Mrs. Shah hired round-the-clock caregivers who would prepare Hasit's meals, dole out the medication doctors prescribed to tame his rages, and clean up after him.

But trouble was simmering across the back fence.  Complaints by neighbours brought an investigation that uncovered serious allegations about Hasit's care, including unqualified staff -- some with criminal records for assault -- who never lasted long in the job, safety hazard in the house such as exposed wires, medications altered at Mrs. Shah's whim, and Hasit being locked away, alone, for long stretches of time.

Mrs. Shah flatly denies fiddling with Hasit's medication without a doctor's permission and accuses some of her underpaid staff -- some snapped photographs of Hasit in fouled underwear later used as exhibits in court -- of sabotaging her in the investigation.

Hmmmmm.  So, I hope the allegations against the family aren't true.  They could, of course, be.  Then again, maybe the neighbors didn't like have Hasit living in their neighborhood -- perhaps he lowered the value of the neighborhood.  Irregardless, he shouldn't be so inhumanely treated in the institution where he is now.

In any case -- wow -- human nature.  Don't you just love it?  (Dripping sarcasm there.)
Thank you, Amy, Aspie Girl, Ryuuing, for your caring support.
As you can see the signer and his/her comments were edited, a very sad comment of some people in society towards the most defenceless vulnerable among us.
I'm getting an error message when I try to send in my signature at this time. He's NOT an animal, he deserves to be treated as a human being!
Raelara, there is nothing in this world that justify Hasit Khagram's treatment by a country so big on human rights. "Barbaric' that was the word used by Connie Smith Anchorwoman of CHTV News. Let them know your feelings, please sign his petition

ADoyle, please, keep on trying, we need every person who are repulsed by the way a vulnerable, defenceless man is being treated.

A man 'bob' wrote:

"listen here, this man was put in isolation for a reason. He is not normal and probably extremely dangerous. If he wasn't dangerous, he would be released. Do you want him as your neighbour? I think not."

We can't let the 'bob's in this world win, let him know that nobody agrees with him. If we don't, it will be to our shame and the next one could be one of our children or grandchildren.
Sorry if I sounded a bit aggressive. I don't know him or his family but it upsets me the way a defenseless human being is being treated. Autism is an autoimmune disorder similar to Chronic Fatigue of Fibromyalgia and using psychiatric drugs on some of them would take them to the road of dementia and violence against themselves and others, which I find disturbing that this 'bob' refers to Hasit as not 'normal' when obviously Hasit is suffering from the effects of the drugs forced on him.

Thanks for caring.
David is the person non-verbal? Can they communicate in any form? Have they been able to express that they do not want to take the medication?
Hi Isabelle, thanks for telling us about these things. I am not sure how you feel about the cure for autism issue.
It seems that this type of treatment is seen as acceptable, because the 'broken' must be 'fixed' despite the personal cost to their bodies and minds.
Isabelle, have you seen our genetic forum? It has quite a lot of information on recent news and studies concerning genetics and autism.
If 'autism' is found to be 'genetic', the next question is: what has made our genes 'sick'?

Autism is most often genetic, and the genes aren't sick, they are different.

Have you seen Dr. Wakefield lectures? Tell me what you think.

Hes been completely and utterly discredited globally for his very poor and partly faked research.

Also I am reading Elaine Gottschall's book "Breaking The Vicious Cycle" Intestinal Health Through Diet" it says "Diet for Chrohn's disease, Ulcerative colitis, diverticulitis, Celiac disease, Cystic Fibrosis and Chonic Diarrhea".

According to Dr. Wakefield and Mrs. Gottschall and another book author Dr. Michael Gershon "The Second Brain" "A Groundbreaking New Understanding of Nervous Disorders of the Stomach and Intestines", the gut and the brain are connected. If the digestive system does not work the brain starves and thus the mental illnessess and mental/neurological disorders.

Apparently, these gut/brain related disorders are all related to an autoimmune ill-working and will not show in the genes. My son's genes were found normal. So I have to look at another angle, not that I want to 'cure' his 'autism', I want that clear, I want to reverse the effects of the psychiatric drugs that messed him up.

How were his genes tested? There is no genetic test for autism yet, as its a complex combination of genes that are involved, they are working on finding a test however.

Happy New Year! Let's wish for an enlightening year.

Happy new year, and all the best to you and your son.
I do not need to see his lectures to read all of his research and that of his contempories.
Have you seen the independently (not government related) documentaries concerning his methods and flawed comclusions?
Just because a lot of people talk about vaccines doesnt mean its true.
I dont believe vaccines are any kind of cause, nor is it DNA being changed, nor is it all coming from gut problems.
