I have written over 700 poems and have 12 movie concepts mapped out scene by scene. I am out of work and want to make it on my own. A little bit of my poetry is on poetry.com just type in my name. I am sick of failing at job interviews and getting nowhere with the Bureau Vocational Resources. If my poetry was published in books or used as song lyrics or if my movies got financed and distributed I can finally have some income. I don't even have money for a laptop computer to write my scripts on, I have to borrow the family computer if I want to write on Microsoft Word. I am proud of my work and I don't want just to

but would serve two ends if my creativity could be put to use and get me fair financial security

Hi John, in the field of creative writing it is extremely difficult to make money and be taken seriously.
Many creative works are now accessible free on the internet, and people producing work far outweighs the demand for scripts, novels, poetry for books etc.

Most people do it as a hobby.

What kind of job are you going to be interviews for?

Full time or part time?

A lot of us have had a hard time getting jobs, and keeping them, are you qualified for anything?
I'll stick my two cents in here. If writing is your gift, then maybe you should stick with it.
hey im a writer too! I used to write peotry, but now I write short stories.

just to be safe I would get a secure income job and work on my writing on the side and see if It works out. If it does then quit your job and become a full time writer. There are a lot of crappy authors, and I say if they can do it then so can you!
Well, I don't know much about movie scripts, but it is my dream to become a published author, and so I know about that.

Step one:  Compile your poems into a manuscript.
Step two:  Write a query letter to an agent w/ your best poem included.  This is a lot like a resume, if you need some advice on how to do this I can get you this really great article on it.
Step three:  If the agent regects you (which is more than likely, no matter how good your poems are), don't give up!  Try another agent.
Step four:  Now that you have an agent, they will help you get a publisher.  Publishers tend to ignore writers who try to get their attention without an agent.  That's why having an agent is so important!
Step five:  Go for a lump sum AND a percentage, so you'll have money if your book bombs, but you'll still get a big piece of the pie if it's a hit.

Voila!  You are now a published author!

*le sigh*  If only it were really that easy.....
