Ive recently just started scratching and taking up scratching lessons, Ive only been doing it a week and Ive only got 2 scratch vinyls so far but i love it and think its great.Im just learning to involve the cross fader too.Ive been practsing with DnB but would love to try and scratch to Gabba. My only problem now is scratch needles they cost soooooo much.I live on my own in a flat and claim income support.I emailed HTFR (DJ shop in Birmingham(for people who dont know))and asked if they would do me a student discount on them.Does anyone else now where i could get a good bargin on scratch needles? Please answer back if anyone knows!Im dying lol
You might just have to keep after some dj friends and see if they end up being willing to sell some old ones. I know what your saying though, needles and styluses are almost outrageous in terms of price. One other thought would be trying Ebay, you'd just wanna make sure you found a seller with enough accreditation.
well i got some good news i might be getting DLA soon (disability living allowance)which could add on an extra £350 a month if i get that then i can get scratch needles and direct drive decks at last! And some more Gabba records.
Just out of curiousity, do you have a decent pair of decks and mixer yet?

vixeness,if you're after a decent pair,you won't get them cheap.
But,the good news about that is they are a lot more hardwearing and require less tone arm weight and anti skate, the cheap carts/styli need a lot of weight behind them to get the same sound levels and they degrade the vinyl quicker.
I have an old pair of Ortofon Concorde Pro S' which have aged well over time-the quality with these, outweighs the cost-Ortofon and Shure's ranges are the most reliable for professional regular tracking and scratch use,and make a lot of difference to tracking, vinyl quality and scratching,
Do you have a credit card? would you trust yourself with using one?
That could be one way to buy them, but saving up is the better option.
As for the shops,HTFR is the most expensive for hardware as they are primarily a record store,I personally recommend DJGear and Sapphires-they are both reliable and of good value:

Jb's Music,is another worth having a look at,but I can't personally recommend them as I've never bought anything from them before:

Are you after new headshells as well,or just the carts/styli?
