L.A. TV Show on Autism Looking for Participants

"A Place of Our Own," a TV show on KCET in Hollywood is doing a show
on autism.  They are looking for parents and grandparents of autistic
children (ages 0 to 5) to participate on the show.  There will be both an
English-speaking and a Spanish-speaking version of the show.
They are also looking for experts in the field of autism.

Notice how they are not looking for autistics?
Call me a cynic, but if they did a show about functioning adult autistics, they wouldn't be able to attract advertising $$$ from companies trying to flog their cures and treatments to the parents during the breaks...
Actually, that station is part of the PBS network which doesn't run commercials. It is interesting that they're not also looking for Aspie parents, it still sounds curbie to me.

Why don't you put yourself forward then?  Or at least contact them, you're in CA, so you're kind of local, they might listen if you point out to them about how not all auties want to be cured and that there may be autistics who can choose to participate in such programmes of their own volition.

If they say thanks but no thanks, this is just about children with autism, ask them to consider making another programme in the future about older autistics, young people and adults.

It may simply be that they're currently unaware of the controversy and antipathy between the curebies and the autistic rights movement.

As a local person, part of their potential audience, your opinion would hold more sway.
