Aspergia had the idea of an island for all the aspergians to live on, it wasnt realised of course, too ambitious or fantastical?
What would be your ideal place for those on the spectrum to live?
Fantasy, or entirely practical?
Any ideas?
After considerable thought I'd say the answers is; among NT's, but it would be nice to be in close proximity of other Aspies! I don't see isolation as ultimately beneficial, but there again, net interaction isn't wholely satisfying!
A blending of the two would do me; I'd set up a club house (and brewery) where we could meet informally, at whatever time suits us, so it would have to be somewhere rural, with a good transport system...but with us being such a small percentage of the population...
OK, how about a sound-proof venue in a major city? All it needs (as ever) is lots of money!
I have gotten myself into trouble for being "too outside the box" for NT's (and a few others). So please don't jump to the conclusion that I am trying to be funny or just trolling.
I would like to point out that something very much like an "Aspergia" does exist-- and is becoming a reality. It is
The Free State Project and whatever you may think of "Libertarians" please do not just dismiss this until you visit the site and carefully analyze what they are saying. It really does promise to become something special.
I am posting this here because I truly believe that many, many people who are attracted to the Libertarian way of doing things are Aspies (like me) and would find this idea appealing.
I did find one good idea on that site - specify a target number of people and make them sign to say they will all move when that target number is reached.
If each individual contributed part of the finance as well as a deposit then we could make the aspergian island (not a reference to a certain forum) dream come true.
I have herd of some flats in cheshire where a load of aspies live and I think that would be a good idea, maybe a block of flats for aspies with a common room (and a HUGE broadband pipe), because then we can boath interact and have our own space.
Wow, I live very near Cheshire and never heard of the place.
Do you have a name or any details?
no, I just heard it at a meeting in chester a while ago
HUGE broadband pipe sounds good, and a nice big /16 block of IPs
mmmmmmmmmmmmm
and a private data centre with free colocation
am i focusing too much on one obession?
heh
you can obsess too much about broadband? NAH!!!
Networking in general
*pictures own private data centre with load-balanced OC192 connections and rack after rack filled with sun servers and cisco switches*
*drools*
Definitely the way to go...
What was the meeting in Chester? An aspie one?
yep, but I havn't been for a while, it was a bit far to travel at the time...
Surely it wouldn't be too hard to set up a large house in a city or somewhere for aspies, or maybe some flats? It would be cheeper than an island (although the isp bill may not be!)
We have discussed all of these options at various times, housing is very expensive now, it would cost over 1 million pounds to set up something simple with a few properties.
It would certainly be cheaper in the US, or even cheaper in some countries.
We have talked about buying land, and erecting basic dwellings, or having holiday homes for people to stay in.
The basic problem is lack of funding and assets to begin any kind of project.
