The September issue of Redbook magazine has a good article about Valerie Paradiz and her alternative school for Aspie kids. The article uses respectful language and addresses the issue of social prejudice against autistics. :smile:

Sorry, Mish, I don't have it. I just happened to notice it while looking through the magazines in a dentist's waiting room when my son was getting his teeth cleaned.
You can probably find it at a supermarket. It's a popular magazine.
I'll have to check to see if they have it up here in Canada.

I just had a look at Paradiz's web site, and I'm sure she has changed it after the revision of her book. I'm sure that last time I looked at it there was a reference to AS as a disease.

And (in response to Lili Marlene's post) the article focuses on the cultural aspects of being autistic, while avoiding words such as disease or disorder. The author was obviously choosing language carefully and making an effort to show respect toward a minority group.
