Are there any anime lovers here?I consider myself quite a hardcore fan of anime(especially the stuff released by Manga ent. in the mid-nineties,)I mostly like the hard stuff(like Fist of the North-Star,Akira,Angel Cop,Ninja Scroll,Ghost in the Shell,Berserk),but I also like stuff like Full Metal Alchemist,*** - Destroyer of Darkness and the like...I just love anime...i need a daily dose of this stuff just to get trough teh day.Damn...guess I´m an addict
I never really got what Akira was all about. I know it's very popular but I couldn't even understand it, unless it isn't as deep as it tries to make itself out to be (which I suspect might be true). But I give it credit for being one quite disturbing flick. I had nightmares after I seeing it.

My favourite anime movie is Grave of the Fireflies. Actually, it's one of my favourite movies, period. I liked Princess Mononoke too but thought the ending was a bit too neat - but I guess that's better than having a thousand loose ends, which seems to be common in anime.

I also enjoyed Neon Genesis Evangelion. It was the first anime I saw and still one of my favourites. Serial Experiments Lain I thought was awesome (that's why Lain is my avatar) because it was so clever and so well thought out. Cowboy Bebop took me a while to warm to, but I ended up liking it. Right now I'm watching Last Exile. Not sure where it's going since I'm halfway through and there hasn't been much storyline yet.

The only anime thing I've seen (I haven't seen that much) that I haven't liked is Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. It looked gorgeous but the storyline sucked, big time. What were they thinking spending so much money on such a bad film? I heard it was second-most expensive animated feature (don't know what the most expensive was) ever made.
the only Anime i actually like is Pokemon (hence the username).  I could sit in front of a TV for hours watching it, same with the 3 movies (of which I have 2), I could watch them over and over again for hours, they are sooooooooooooooooooooooo good
I got addicted to Yu-Yu Hakusho, the Spirit Detective and the one with the red haired samurai, Ruroni Kenshin?

I remember the early anime of the 60's, early speed racer, Kimba, the white Lion, G force and the other shows that it spawned.

Cowboy Bebop, I still haven't figured out!

Peace

execessively long CGI cut scenes in Final Fantasy X

You mean the cinematic genius FMV sequences?

From my understanding, the word 'anime' just means animation, and since FF: The Spirits Within technically is animation, albeit very expensive computer generated animation, you could call it anime. And in any case, just about all modern animation these days is CGI, even 2D works. Animators nowadays often do the animation in 3D originally and render it back into 2D for the finished product - this is called cel-shading. It's use is very obvious in the film Metropolis, if anyone has seen it, but it's not usually made as noticable as it was in this film.

BTW, FFX had less FMV than FFVIII. I loved the animation in both.
My favorite animes:
Serial Experiments Lain
Niea under 7
Ghost in a Shell
Blue Seed
Princess Monoke (spelling?)
oh, btw, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within rocks!
My favourites are:

Hellsing, Ninja Scrolls, Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Evangelon Genises, Blood the last Vampire (I think thats what it is called).

And I want to see Berserker.
Shows:
Full Metal Alchemist
Bleach
Neon Genesis Evangelion
FLCL

Movies:
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within
Final Fantasy: Advent Children (reccomend this)
Metropolis
Spirited Away
Ghost in the Shell
Ghost in the Shell 2

I'm not that addicted compared to my best friend Wink!

Indeed! My favourites include Trigun, Cowboy Bebop and Excel Saga. I'm not  a fan of the "Mecha" animes but the ones I like break that mold.

Excel Saga is ROFLOL hilarious! :happyjump: I like how she gets so insanely excited whenever she sees Lord Ill Palazzo. I have felt that way about certian guys during my lifetime, and sometimes it really is like you want to dance around and be like "EEEEE!"

I also really liked this conversation:

Excel: *blabbing on incessantly about randomness* Oh and you know how Americans sing Jimmy Cracked Corn and I don't care? Why don't they care, what is there they're not caring about?

I was like, hahahahaha! The first time I heard that, because when you think about it most Americans have no clue about that either.

I like Azumanga Daioh as it's really cute but haven't had much experience in watching most of the others.
I wonder if Midori is good? My 15 year old daughter, Michelle, loves anime. She has persuaded me to buy her several box sets including Samurai Champloo and Elfen Lied. I know I shouldn't spend so much on these but I don't see her very often and she has a way of asking that I find hard to refuse.

She is now making her own AMV's and is also talented at writing and drawing. I don't know if she is Aspie. She is very particular about her food and other things, not worried very much about popularity, going ga ga over boys, clothes (although she is more interested than she used to be) and she says what she thinks without fear or favour.

When she goes out, she always takes her book with her as she says she never knows when she is going to get bored. She copies that trait from her dad. I've tried doing that but get too distracted and will tend to put up with boring conversations.

She is very outgoing with her friends but quiet with people she doesn't know. Even if she is just the very tiniest touch Aspie, I wouldn't see any need for her to do any diagnostic tests at this juncture. She knows I am Aspie and that there is a history of it my family and they also did a school project on Aspergers (which I think was very positive of the school to suggest).
I used to like anime a whole lot when I was a teenager but now I don't really watch it all that much. I'm pretty partial to Perfect Blue, Patlabor and Ghost in the Shell, though (I like the second movie better).
