Today in PE, I was struggling to complete a running course (quite normal for me really) and went up to the teacher and explained why I was struggling (Asthma and Aspergers), and he was fine about - seems some teachers do know about AS after all.

After the lesson had finished, the teacher asked me to tell another teacher about what prevented me from completing the course (quite a long list..), and the other teacher - I was struggling to put on my tie - just started being really patronising and put my tie on for me. I was really quite sickened.

I don't know why he did this, I wouldn't have minded if he had just helped me with my tie. But he could at least have asked if I wanted some help with it first - and I am unsure as to why he was so patronising. At least I have some self control or I would have a week of detentions by now ..

Anyone else had a similar experience with teachers after telling them about having AS?

Don't get upset, Tom, especially if he thought he was helping you. (Maybe his empathy reminded him of his children or sometime he needed help when he was little.) Think about how we are when we correct people and they don't like being corrected. I had a friend from France who was struggling to learn English and I constantly corrected her thinking what a great friend I was to help her with something so important as communication only to have her blow up at me one day screaming. She thought I was patronizing her but I wasn't (I can't speak French, can I?) She ignored me after that and we were not friends anymore.

Just do what NT kids do when an adult tries to help them, say "I can do it!". He'll understand that.
Tom, there is a saying 'Those than can, do, those that can't do, teach, those that can't teach, teach gym'.

The gym teacher probably was being somewhat patronising, when I was in school they would have given you the cane or similar, so at least they aren't allowed to do that.
Do you have dyspraxia, or can you get a simple doctors or nurses letter about your asthma?
I'm really not too concerned about it, as long as it doesn't happen again. Just the fact that he didn't ask me whether I needed any help was the part that annoyed me.

He wasn't my regular teacher, so should be alright from now on.
