Aspies For Freedom

Full Version: Huge idea, very dangerous, but brilliant

I think some major places have disability weekends. Its possible that some places of higher interest to auties and aspies might be persuaded to have a day, but I dont think they would be exclusive.
In the USA they might be different, I can only comment on the UK.

One possibility I am thinking of is Jodrell Bank. I will email them and see what they think of the idea, and the NAS, whether I will get a response from the NAS I dont know.

Does anyone like the sound of spending APD at Jodrell Bank?
I've had a very positive response from Jodrell Bank.

http://www.jb.man.ac.uk/

It is suitable for all ages, and has a 3D theatre, radio telescope, aboretum,
and is willing to let us have an APD group there.
They will also offer a discount that children attending as part of APD can go free with their families.

I mentioned in another thread, the planned day would not be exclusive for aspies/auties, it would still be open to the public too, but we would likely have a majority if enough people went, and families would be going to take their children, which would be mix a mix of NTs and autistics.
Are there places to visit there that aren't too crowded at that time of year, and are aspie friendly in theme?
That sounds good, would anybody be willing to email and ask about facilities, what age groups its suitable for, etc.
But they are always hugely busy, queues, etc.

Somewhere suitable would be quieter, no queing.
I have been to some of the parks are they were way too busy for me.
It is unlikely that the parks would have an 'autism only day'.

But to start with an event day where many people with autism go would be practical.
13 or 30, anyone can like a funny joke
A science museum sounds good.
Why wouldnt it be as effective?
A site would be more expensive and busy.
Entire southeast of america????
I wouldnt worry too much about getting lots of people there, people will go somewhere if they want to, if they dont, they dont.
Maybe we could manage one event in each state. We still have a long time to plan. And in the UK, one event in the north, the south, scotland, wales, and northern and southern ireland.

If we kept it as simple as, a chosen meeting place that was suitable, eg, a science museum including a children's section, and gained permission from the owners, asked about price discount, then informed people of the event.

Any one could also arrange their own local events, picnics, etc.
Well permission in the sense of, it would not be nice for families with young children to turn up somewhere and be thrown out, and asking is the best way to find out if somewhere is suitable or not.

If you've had a positive response from Jodrell Bank then why not organise something for that? I take it by positive response you mean they're up for something like this?
