Why not swamp western Wales in Britain and Maine in the US?
They're small enough, very pretty, and Welshmen and Mainers are kinda eccentric as it is.

From what I understand the English have a perception of Welsh as crazies. And you did have Dillan Thomas.
As for Maine, I know quite well the state is full of eccentrics.
