Computers are so awesome nowadays. I'm about to get my 5th (my 3rd laptop) when I have money. See, my desktop is deciding when it is going to have it's final hour. I was going to get a mac, but I wanted a Linux (why can I only find Windows now?). Mac is way too expensive though. Even a £400 pc is a lot on my budget now

.
the spec above is like that of my two year old laptop, but more advanced. My laptop only has 220GB (still the largest hard disk space in the household, though), 3GB virtual memory. But it does have 2 earphone ports and quite a bit of the other stuff. It's a gaming laptop though. It also has 2 processors (although I think one is failing).
The one I want to get is actually on an offer at the moment, but it has 100GB more hard disk space than the one I described just now. It's a major advancement from the time I got my XP one in 2004. It had a 27.9GB hard drive, half of which was allocated for system usage. I'm kind of a big computer geek and I collect pc operating systems for my programming knowledge, my laptop from 2008 is a Vista (and we all know what that means....).
Always wanted windows 7.....I can't wait. The one I want to get has a built in webcam too (like my other 2- netbook and laptop). People say I waste the little money I have, but I want to go into computing, even though I'm doing a science degree. I also love the first time you log on to a new computer, it's awesome!

My laptop was failing randomly, it turns out it was the HDD. I replaced it, and now it's running strong again.
I don't know the specifics from your post, but I have a feeling that if the processor was going out, you'd know it in no uncertain terms.
It could also be a heat failure of one of the other components, check to make sure the fans aren't clogged, etc. Of course, that may not fix it, but it may work longer. Maybe. lol.

I consider buying a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge, preferably without a glossy lid.
I like thinkpads and vaios myself - good sturdy machines
I will be ordering a Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q880 at the end of the month, will post pics when I recieve it
My lap-top an Acer Aspire 5100 burnt out on me a couple of months ago. I had it or almost three years and I had it running almost constantly. I might find a new mother board for it on
ebay and try fixing it myself, but I am looking to buy another laptop sometime this year.
By the way Congratulations to Duckfetishgirl for her lap-top Good Luck with it.
I finally made my blackberry a wireless modem for my laptop. Now I can go anywhere.
