I do not like people who do not like cats. I also feel extremely violently towards anyone who would harm them.
I like all kinds of animals, but cats are my favorites.  Probably because they are reasonably self-sufficient.  We understand each other.

The profoundly sick and sadistic people (especially those who were categorized as sexual psychopaths) would become so agitated and excited, carrying on about how they hated cats, trying to top each other witht sadistic fantasies about cats. Almost orgasmic in their hate for cats.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

People who harm cats are total Cowards AFAIC. Since cats are too little and cannot fight back against humans; their only option is to try to break free and run away. I have my own sadistic fantasies towards such people--like forcing them to spend a night in a 2-man cell with a guy like **Tremayne Francis.

**Googlesearch this guy to see what he's all about if you're curious.

I had two cats Holly and Bailey. Bailey disappeared my sophomore year of college and Holly disappeared this summer. Bailey was 3 when she disappeared and Holly was 11. Both of them could sit, beg, and shake paws on command. Bailey would come when called and give a little funny trill in greeting. Holly would lie down on command. Cats can be trained --just as long as they have a little "motivation" --aka yummy treat.
My roommate last year has a cat named Maverick. He figured out how to open the cabinet where his food was and would bite a hole in the bag and help himself --so we had to put his food in a plastic container. He would also get agitated that you were doing a puzzle on "his" table and would make off with our puzzle pieces and pens and stash them somewhere. One day we pulled a carpet roll from the wall and found like, 5 pens there. Now he's in her new apartment.

I really wish I could have a cat right now. But I live in the dorms, so I can't (but I can have Pebbles my service dog). I also am not in a financial situation right now where I could pay for the care of two animals. Pebbles is really good company, don't get me wrong, but still, she's not a cat!

I remember I had to pay $400 down to keep Chloe ($200 refundable) and $20 a month for 4.5 years now (maybe $1100 worth by now)

Chloe scratched me (gently) 10 minutes ago.  Maybe she wants to go to bed.

You have to pay a monthly fee too?!? When I lived in an apartment last year, my roommate only had to pay the $200 pet deposit for Maverick (her cat). She got most of the money back when we moved out --the deposit was mostly for the replacement of the carpet if it got messed up. Paying a monthly fee in addition to a pet deposit sounds crazy.

I'm so glad that Pebbles got to stay with me in the apartment for free! (It really helps since I only work part-time). Now we live in the dorms and it's just me and her --no roommate. I had one, but I emailed her before the semester started and asked her if she would mind living with a dog. Never heard back from her --Res Life said she had withdrawn her housing thing. Well, more room for me and Pebbles!! Big Grin

Welcome back Sheenalasvegas.

Thanks! Now that the semester has settled into a routine, I should be able to get on now and then (mid-terms are coming up though --I have my first one next week--so I may be off again for a little while until those are over).

Back to the topic of cats, I really wish I could continue volunteering at the animal shelter. Before I got Pebbles, I would go in once a week and play with/pet the cats/kittens. There was one cat who would always come straight for me and jump in my lap and fall asleep promptly. I really wanted to adopt him! (But again, not enough money to care for him and can't have a pet in the dorm). Now that I have Pebbles though, I've been advised by my trainer not to go to the animal shelter because of the risk of bringing illnesses back to Pebbles (I would have to leave her in the car if I went). It's just distressing because both of my cats at home are gone and I can't have one or visit any at the shelter! So now my only source of some kitty-time is my friend Laura's cat Maverick. I come over to her apartment now and then to spend time with her and to spend some time with Maverick too! (He's no longer as bi-polar as he used to be --I think it's because he no longer lives with Pebbles --he really hated her --would pee in her water bowl and everything.)

After Sapphire was killed the children were devastated so my daughter got two kittens and allowed her boys to name them. The 'Pokémaniac' called the boy kitten 'Jolteon', and my youngest grandson called the little girl kitten 'Clank'. Rolleyes

They are growing nicely and have just been 'done'.

Anyway, my son-out-law* was driving on the back roads recently when he slowed down to avoid a little rock in the road - and it moved. He found a tiny tabby kitten just about three weeks old, eyes still shut, and her sister at the side of the lane who had a very swollen eye. Of course, he rescued them and they were very poorly. They were taken to the vet for treatment but inspite of all his efforts the vet could not save the bad eye. They are now home and have been named 'Ratchet' Rolleyes and Cyclops. Tongue
Apparently Clank is a little suspicious of them but Jolteon is making friends.
My daughter is now the 'mad-cat-woman'!

I like that story Tigger... ( not the bad bits....  the good ending ) I also am referred to as 'the mad cat woman'Big GrinBig GrinBig GrinBig GrinBig GrinBig Grin:

The cat deposit seems excessive. I know some landlords have had trouble with pet owners but it should just be a refundable deposit and that's all.

I guess it was fortunate my brother paid the original $400.  It was just before my 33rd birthday I adopted Chloe, and two months after mom died.

Now you see I MUST BE AS, because I thought that you were talking about cat poo!
