In my life, though I have never owned a Cat (or Dog) myself, other members of my family (e.g, Nan, uncle etc) have owned either a Cat(s) or Dog(s) at some point, so I have plenty of experience with them, and like both. Out of the two (and among other domestic animals for that matter) I'd say I prefer cats, as they're far less jumpy and loud (unlike dogs who want to leap all over you and bark like mad for just about any reason), also cats aren't as dependant on you - mostly they'll do their own thing (except at mealtimes lol). So I'd definately prefer at Cat to a dog as pet.
I got a cat from an Arlington rescue operation 4.5 years ago, Chloe, extremely friendly, follows me around all over the apt
You don't walk a cat.
Cats bury their droppings.
Cats do that, and are fastidiously clean, think about it, if you were a small carnivorous mammal you wouldn't want to advertise your presence (odor) to predators. That is why cats hide and climb trees, too.
Poor Chloe, I deprived her of every place to hide. Using all the under the bed space, much of the under table space, closet doors shut. Stupid feline. She leaves her odor on everything low enough for her to reach, but there is not going to be another cat for her to subordinate.
Maybe she wants one. She hasn't told me.
Problem is, the other cat might want to be first, too.
I have three cats, and I would say they are my favorite animals.
Lucie - I'm sorry about your cat
I've wanted a cat for years, but where I'm living now wants a $200 deposit per pet, and I don't have that kind of money. One of these days.....
I remember I had to pay $400 down to keep Chloe ($200 refundable) and $20 a month for 4.5 years now (maybe $1100 worth by now)
Chloe scratched me (gently) 10 minutes ago. Maybe she wants to go to bed.
Lucie, I have a friend who had her cat's ashes put in a toy stuffed cat and she sleeps with it on the bed. Is that crazy? Yes, I suppose so -- but so what? maybe I'll do the same when Rosie dies (she's 14...)
Just like that three legged dog on the Shepherd College campus when I was there. Someone cut T R into his fur (the rejected?)
Campus pets really need their vaccinations for things like rabies, heartworm, roundworm, tapeworm, distemper. Anti flea, anti tick, and anti mosquito are really kind to cats and dogs too. And they ought to be spayed or neutered (because we love cats and dogs and we don't want homeless cats and dogs starving, freezing, getting hit by cars)
I hate cats, I absolutely hate them, until they're dead.
That's interesting. I used to teach in a mental institution and one of the things I learned very quickly was never to mention cats. The profoundly sick and sadistic people (especially those who were categorized as sexual psychopaths) would become so agitated and excited, carrying on about how they hated cats, trying to top each other witht sadistic fantasies about cats. Almost orgasmic in their hate for cats.
I've always used it as something of a barometer in judging character and it has seldom been wrong.
This website demonstrating a new form of software might interest and amuse you cat lovers. THe demo test is kind of fun.

Web services are often protected with a challenge that's supposed to be easy for people to solve, but difficult for computers. (They) are used for many purposes, such as to reduce email and blog spam and prevent brute-force attacks on web site passwords.
Today, the most... ask users to identify text that has been distorted..... Unfortunately, such challenges can be difficult and frustrating for people, yet are often easily solved by computers.
Asirra (Animal Species Image Recognition for Restricting Access) is a human interactive proof that asks users to identify photos of cats and dogs. It's powered by over three million photos from our unique partnership with Petfinder.com.
Have any of you had one that 'chatters' when seeing a bird?
Yes, my cat used to do that while watching a nest of birds through the window. When a cat chatters, he’s showing excitement and/or frustration, especially if the prey is out of reach.
If you do a search on "chattering cat" at youtube, you'll find nearly 100 videos of cats doing it.
Moa's sister Florence was in here a while wild as 10 cats. She sat watching my loft bed so I put her up there for a while and when I took her down to go away to her flat I smelled the baddest smell of a long time and said to her human that it seemed she had farted. T'was like rotten eggs... Bleedin Yikes...
WfM, Ebony and Tabitha are ringers for my boys, Albus and Gandalf.
I used to have a cat named Gandalf in the 1970s. He was named thus because he was gray but with a white undercoat inside. Hints of white were revealed through the gray when he walked.
Yes, and if they weren't rewarded for aggressive behaviour.
