You didn't have the choice of: 'Love cats, but can't even consider having any due to severe allergies.'
Because that's where I fit in. We can't have any pets at all, doctor's orders. So, I don't even dare pet a cat, because if I do and forget to wash my hands right after and touch my face, I'm in deep trouble (sigh).
Life without cats -- scary thought, they are my best friends.
i like to say meow
meow!
Cats can be trained. However, they are not motivated by pleasing their owners, as dogs often are. This is why people have so much trouble training cats. To train a cat, just use their main obsession - food - as a motivator. I have two cats that know how to beg. To train a cat to beg, just hold a piece of food above its head and say, "beg." Eventually, they will start begging at the word "beg" with or without having food dangling in their faces. Of course, a cat can only be trained if it wants to be, so not all cats will pick this up.
Cats can entertain without having to be trained. I have one cat that plays fetch. He was the one who initiated the game, with no training what so ever. Though, I've read that cats can be trained to play fetch. Throw something, the cat will run to get it. When the cat is at the object, throw it again. If they have any interest in fetching, they will catch on. I have two that perform a variation of the common dog trick, "speak." All I do is look at them from around a corner, and they meow. One of the cats I have that does this was a stray and didn't used to meow at all... she just recently started this "speak game." Actually, neither cat was trained to do this; they just picked it up. (no, this is not an impressive "trick," but it is very cute!)
I've read that you can teach a cat to sit & stay also. However, I haven't tried this.

Well that someone was me! Despite the fact that I have a 'bear' log in name (and am very fond of bears) there is no doubt that I love cats more and think that they like me because we have autistic traits in common
In fact, I've recently told my mum about my self-diagnosis and said 'you know, when you were little we always called you The Cat Who Walks by Himself' (after a Rudyard Kipling story)!
You can find Kipling's illustration to the story here:

Exactly. I can relate to cats better than I can to most people. That's why my cat is my best friend. (and because I've never had any human best friends any way!)
I can almost really sound like a cat sometimes
meow
I love animals in general.
I don't love everything they do, but at the same time I never hold them responsible for anything they do.
Because they really can't be blamed for any of their actions.
They're the very essence of innocence (even the large carnivorous ones), and that, for me, is really their greatest appeal.
But getting back to the subject of cats, for the last decade my best friend in the world has been a small grey cat named Stacey.
She's getting slower now, less frisky, less energetic.
But not too old to learn new tricks, as her latest hobby is now hunting mice out in the backyard, which she's become extremely good at.
In so many ways, still the kitten that showed up in our driveway in late '94.

P.S. Have you ever noticed how very responsive animals are when you talk to them and not at them?
When you do, you can't help but feel that they're a lot more intelligent than people generally give them credit for.
I love cats! I've got a cat called Max,and without doubt, one of the finest beings on this planet. He's disabled on one leg though, cause a scooter hit him 7 years ago,at the time being making it very difficult for him to walk.Nowadays he can climb and catch birds like a true hunter, making me very proud of him

.Unfortunatly, his sister(Daisy)died in a car accident 5 years ago,a great loss to me and my family, and her brother too :cry.I would like to get a spider or a snake, but my mom won't allow me,sadly .
I adore cats! My husband and I have two: a big orange fuzzball girl and a little sleek black girl who'll turn a year old next month. They're a joy each and every day.
And yes: meow and meow and meow! I meow so similarly to a cat that both our fuzz balls often look startled by what I say to them, and they usually meow back. The kitties and I carry on myriad conversations in which I haven't the slightest clue what I'm saying to them.
Oh, we have a rose hair tarantula, too! She's cool.

And both hubby and I like snakes, too.
Maxine Aston was right, aspies like cats! I seem to be the only one on here that perferes dogs.
I get along with cats far better than I do with people. I can't have any at the moment due to my liing situation (tiny rented flat with 'no pets' clause in the lease). Cats make me feel a lot calmer so I'm going to try and get some voluntary work at a local cat shelter - I've made initial enquiries and they've told me to drop in and have a chat with them.

Nope, you're not alone. Cats are nice, but I'd prefer a dog any day.
Cat's are better than dogs, dog's are a bit gristly. Cat's (when battered and deep fried) come up quite nicely...
...sorry, just had to
Cats understand us better because they do not prejudge us in the same way ignorant humans do.
To be perfectly honest, I can deal with cats if they belong to somebody else, and I don't have to live with them. --I prefer dogs over cats.
