The Berlin International Film Festival has ended yesterday. This time, in addition to 2 movies which involved autism to some extent (see here), there was a film I saw which showed Dissociative stupor (ICD-10 F44.2).

Quote:
Dissociative stupor is diagnosed on the basis of a profound diminution or absence of voluntary movement and normal responsiveness to external stimuli such as light, noise, and touch, but examination and investigation reveal no evidence of a physical cause. In addition, there is positive evidence of psychogenic causation in the form of recent stressful events or problems.

The movie "Winter's Bone" is mainly about the coming-of-age of 17-year-old Ree Dolly, but shows also her mother's reaction to her fathers's criminal career (and absence for good) and how the community deals with it. The reaction looks like autism but of course has been only acquired recently (see above).
The movie has been shown at Sundance Film Festval in January and at the Berlin International Film Festival in February and will be shown in Missouri (where it was shot) in April.
