Well, sa i am a linux newby. I was wondering what some expiernced advice could be. What i would like to do with my desktop. Is to Dual Boot with windows, whjich is simple enough. But i want to install an open source OS (so not specifically Linux) But what i really am going to do with it is Surf the internet, Emailing. And some Multiplayer Free games (with have been put toghether for Linux and that). Thats all easy of course. But what I really want is to some some neat tools with it to play about with the network.
You can ask me more question if you need/like to.
As for nice tools:

PRAISE TO THE CAT
Well, i have a problem with that. When i first booted the CD. I selected Graphical Install and it just displayer Root@PCBSD
But i had to chose Xstart then Graphical Install to get around the issue.
Now once it is installed It boots up and I can't rember the error but it stayed on the command prompt and i can login. And it said sommit about before contacting technical services. But i couldn't really find the error. Unless that is the error some how? I think i will re-install it to see what that will do.
Well, i haven't re-instaled it, but it now boots up with that pritty flower! but unfortunely IT says KD(sommit) [835] Unable to fire up. or something like that.
What are the specs of your machine?
The machine i installed it on is:
Atholon XP 1500 (1.5ghz)
256mb Ram
Ati Radeon 7500 LE (light edition) 64MB
Excel Store 60Gb HDD
----------------------------------------
Removable Media:
Anymous DVD Rom (I could look in Bios, But i can't be arsed)
Some LG CD-RW
Some Floppy Drive
----------------------------------------
PCI:
Cheap SIS 900 ethernet Card
LG CD-RW
LeadTek TV tuner.
Cheap C-media 6CH CMI8738
Some USB 2.0 card
I can not see anything really being a problem except Lack of Ram. But i am sure my 256mb is enough.
i might Install it it on my P3 500mhz 128MB ram. 10GIG SCSI HHD. With random obscure old hardware. But the CD is not bootable.
Spoke to someone on #pcbsd / freenode and gave them the link to this topic, here's the logs:
<Solarin> First things to check:
<Solarin> Make sure HD is in 'LBA' mode instead of 'Auto' in the BIOS
<Solarin> Make sure the target partition is large enough, the 0.7.8 installer sometimes misjudges how much space it needs
and allows an install.
<GarethTheGreat> doubt it's a space issue
<GarethTheGreat> 60GB
<Solarin> For reference, hardware isn't a problem. I've had it running on a PII 233 with 96MB RAM
<Solarin> That'll be fine
<Solarin> But it depends if he's using the entire HD, or just a portion of it
<GarethTheGreat> hmm, he did say he's trying to dual-boot
<GarethTheGreat> pc-bsd requires <1GB doesn't it?
<Solarin> Full install is around 2.5GB
<GarethTheGreat> for some reason i kept on thinking <1GB
<GarethTheGreat> forgot the packages are compressed
<Solarin> *but* I think it needs more than that to install, uses some temporary space during the installation process
<Solarin> :-)
<GarethTheGreat> so, about 3 or 4 GB to be safe?
<Solarin> Not aware of the minimum, I'd go for 5 just to be on the safe side.
I set the Hard Drive to LBA mode, And its partition size (windows detected) is 16gb.
And still the same problem. But this time the BSD logo didn't appear acting as a screensaver. If that has anything to do with it?
But its KDM [835] 'Somthing' X terminated unexpecidly
Then KDM [835] Unable to fire up local display.
Sounds like your X server isn't starting up properly. Fiddle with XF86Config a bit to use generic SVGA.

XF86? now how do i do that?
Get to a shell
vi /etc/X11/XF86Config
