Now we have had various suggestions I am doing a poll so the favourite can be chosen.
The highest one by end of September roughly can be declared to start the public and media awareness for October.
End to ignorance, informed people make informed decisions. No informed person would go against us.
Sure but
to them
an end to ignorance is to
1) finally recognize mercury causes autism
2) Autism needs a cure
Please vote on this poll if you can so that we can make a clear decision on the upcoming theme.
Is the word well known and understood by the general population?
I am not really sure if it is or not.
Hi guy's I am from Spectrom heaven, a "sister site" to aff.
I posted a slogan on there and Amy asked me to post it here so that people could give input. it is kind of a pun on CAN.
Celebrate Autism Now.
What do you think?
i like it better than neurodivisrity
It's so hard to decide on one, there are so many great ideas and funny slogans!
Marie's argument I found very convincing in favour of "Celebrate Neurodiversity", and I do agree that it would be a good thing to introduce the word "neurodiversity" to the wider public.
But I also love the slogans that poke fun at our enemies such as "Celebrate Autism Now" and "Help find a cure for ignorance" and "There is no cure for being yourself". I think it is a good idea to use humour while pushing our message, because people appreciate a good laugh, and when you share a laugh with someone you make an emotional connection with them. Use of humour on our part might help dissolve the serious pitying mentality that many NTs seem to have towards autistic people, and dispel the myth that autistic have no sense of humour. Autistic humour is a slap in the face to all of those people who are perpetuating the image of autism as a tragedy that must be defeated.
I like the slogan "A war on autism is a war on autistics" because it is a very important message that makes reference to the current threat of new eugenics technologies.
I think the slogans "Celebrate our culture" and "Minority group-minority rights" could be ideas that will be more relevant in the future.
I'd love to see a selection of these theme slogans turned into simple colourful designs that can be downloaded and printed onto T-shirt transfers and applied to T-shirts or cloth bags.

I could make some sample slogans and put them on cafepress for people to look at.
Would that mean a person would have to buy a T-shirt over the internet, or would they be able to copy the design to make their own T-shirt?
Lili, we have one that people can download from the library, and the same one available from cafepress, we have only sold about 3. People have been seen wearing them, so some must be downloading the free logo to use to, which is great.
I will try and make some of the slogans into designs, but I am NOT in any way professional and I was thinking that people could view them, they may choose to buy one, I don't know. The original AFF logo was not made by me.
Either way if any are viewed as nice, we could try and make an image that people can download too.
I use 'paint' and 'inkscape' to make logos.
I voted End to ignorance, because so many people do not know what autism is.
It is only through researching I have found out about autism, after my son’s diagnoses. Whenever Autism is discussed in media only the negatives are looked at. When the news talks about the 'Autism epidemic' they will show you pictures of Autistic children behaving in what NT's perceive to be strange and sometimes aggressive ways.
When my son was diagnosed I really believed that the Drs had got it wrong because my understanding of being autistic was 'madness' and my son is not mad just different.
Although I feel embarrassed to admit my ignorance it is sadly the fact that most people don't know what Autism or Aspergers is.
I have found that even when people do ask about Autism they want a very short simple reply not to many details. I do believe that if we could just give out a few facts to the majority it might be that autistic people will be accepted for who they are and not have to be cured.

I agree, some people do carry a card that gives basic info that they can hand out to people in awkward situations.
Maybe we should make one that people can print off.
The winner is clear and will be added as the theme for 2006 on the official site.
Now the theme has been chosen, you need to start PR.
You should draw up a committee of people to start drawing up a plan, then acting on it.
This committee should also be responsible for designing and choosing a logo.
The best theme has one though, a victory for neuro-diverse people.
