I have seen two books on philosophy and popular culture. One is titled "Pink Floyd and Philosophy." The other, which I have not looked at, is titled, "The Beatles and Philosophy." Out of curiosity, has anyone seen a "Star Trek and Philosophy?"
I believe there is. There's also "The Physics of Star Trek", which explains how things like matter transporters and warp drives are NOT outside the realm of known physics. By the way, did you know that according to Newtonian physics, the copier should not be possible? I'm not talking about Spock Must Die, but a copier, one that copies documents that you can buy for $200.
Also, did you know that George Lucas wanted to tell the story of a portion of the Bible in modern terms with Star Wars? He has referred to the basic story as the most ancient legend of humanity or something similar. Darth Vader is the Devil and Luke Skywalker is either God or Jesus. Princess Leia may be Mary Magdalene. If you didn't notice, Darth Maul in the prequels greatly resembles medieval depictions of Satan, red skin, horns, and all.
Luke Skywalker wears a white tunic like Jesus is usually depicted as wearing. The Death Star is Hell, and Stormtroopers are demons. In the end, the Death Star is annihilated like the Bible says will happen to Hell at the end of time. "Jedi" looks similar to "Jew". There is a light side and a dark side. And what about The Force? There is an actual Jedi Faith in Australia, based on the movies.
