I'm not sure i would be better off on an island solely populated by aspies. It's a cool idea though- perhaps a small experimental commune would be a place to start. I suppose one advantage of having a personality that is described in pathological terms is that we might be able to get grants from somewhere. : )
I doubt you can make an island just for Aspies seeing as how you'd be discriminating and that's illegal. If it were private and non profit, maybe. I still don't buy this whole NT oppression thing.
mrt6812, you said several days ago on your own self-involved thread, "Don't ban me, I'll stop making posts on my own except for this topic."
That topic is closed. Why are you still here rather than posting at an NT forum with your fellow NT's? Are NT's unable to remember what they promise from one week to the next?
To be honest with you, I went back and read that post. I meant to say Topics instead of posts. I'll stop making topics on my own aside from that one. Sorry, typo.
Max, mrt6812 has just as much right to be on these forums as you do so please don't give him such a hard time.
on another topic that I'd started months and months ago, Max posted saying pretty much the same thing as above. The only thing I did was respond to a question someone asked me. Seems that he's following me around on the boards or something, haha.
"I still don't buy this whole NT oppression thing. "
Do you understand "this whole NT oppression thing?" Maybe you don't buy it because you don't understand what it means.
Explain what you believe it to mean, and explain why you don't buy it.
The whole "us against them" attitude. That's what I don't understand. I don't buy it because for the most part, people are understanding. For the MOST part.
"The whole 'us against them' attitude."
Sorry, that doesn't make sufficient sense. "NT Oppression" = "The whole 'us against them' attitude." That just doesn't seem like a well developed thought.
The dynamics of oppression are complex and often subtle. People who don't understand how it works, or who try hard not to understand and deny the obvious, often reject the whole idea out of ignorance.
There are overlapping, interlocking systems of oppression. Almost everyone fits into different places in different systems.
Society gives unearned privilege to people on the basis of gender (male), race (white), class (upper), age (neither "too young" or "too old"), sexual orientation (hetero), language, religion, size, nationality, neuroidentity, etc., etc. Those privileges are withheld and in many cases replaced with systematic oppression for being (for example) female, black, low income, old, gay, atheist, Muslim, Jewish, fat, disabled, Arabic, Aspie, etc.
So I am aware that I am granted automatic unearned advantage on the basis of some things (e.g., I am a white male, and in America, those are very privileged categories.)
But I am also aware of systematic, unearned disadvantages on the basis of being gay, having ADHD, being an atheist, etc.
The level of oppression is not the same for these various identities -- I am old enough now (53) to be the object of some age discrimination, but it's certainly not the same level of discrimination that I face for being gay or that another person might recieve for being black. In America I think being gay or black are probably the greatest targets of opression.
The thing about "us against them" that amuses me (and pisses me off) is when the People of Privilege get all upset and defensive because some outsider group wants decent treatment, equality, or simple, basic human rights.
The reality is usually that the minority group has no interest at all in taking anything away from the majority. But the majority will freak out and start screaming "It's Us against Them! They're trying to destroy our Way of Life and eat our children!"
Snake13,
Have you thought about starting an Aspie town, rather than an Aspie nation? Starting a town would be a lot easier than starting a nation due to both size and the politics involved, and international politics is not pretty. I think that having an Aspie communuity will be a good way to show people that Aspies are capable of doing things on their own. Start off small with the town and then someday a nation.
Ok, to start off, I've heard people say both America and Japan are Aspergia. You are obviously smoking crack, but I'm gonna be civil about this. We are living in a prejudice world, we are under the NT's system, we are labled, rejected, and what little notice we do get is "we must be cured", or we're stereotyped. We hafta be a certain way, just like any other "disabled" people. Or so they would like to assume.
No nation that is predominantly NT and ran by NT's is Aspergia, no nation that is designed for NTs is Aspergia. Aspergia is supposed to be designed around Aspie strengths and weaknesses, aspies are supposed to be the majority. That is what Aspergia is about. We will never reach equality within the NT world, because the disabled have far too long been held down. And we are seen as disabled (in actuality we're just different. One man might have another skin color than the next, we have a different brain).
This is the answer to aspie problems, a point of salvation, where we can go and we are the norm, and the only NT's allowed are close relatives and loved ones of an Aspergian. We need this movement, we need to liberate ourselves. Theyr not just gonna wake up one day and say "gee, we've been acting pretty ignorant about disabilities or about aspies". It's not going to happen. We need to grow some cajones and step up.
If enough aspies around the world pitch in we can buy an island some day, theyr suprisingly cheap, islands are being auctioned by governments. If we get enough people, each pitching in let say, about $10 a month, or the equivalent of (in other countries), we can do this. We hafta be the majority, we hafta show the rest of the world we can take care of ourselves, that we can build a prosperous nation on our own. Then we will earn our respect, our equality within the NT world. Everyone should stop being wusses and go for it. What is $10 a month? For equality and freedom for all future generations of aspies?
I'm trustworthy enough. Aspies need to stand united, and quit being selfish. Aspies need to realise that in a movement, and yes we do need a movement, that there is no room for childishness.
Look at other civil rights movements. Did THEY hafta question who was trustworthy enough to lead them into battle? They were united by a common bond, and they were loyal to that cause. Look at the Native Americans, the blacks, the Jews after WW2. If they had a bunch of immature, apathetic, untrustworthy losers trying to establish everything, and they refused to acknowledge the scope of their problems, and could not trust in anyone to lead them, there would be no Isreal. This is a movement, this is freedom, equality for the aspies all over the world. And we're gonna have far too much larger concerns than pettiness. For one, we'll hafta bridge lagnuage barriers, but this can be done. The early settlers in America came over speaking a plathora of languages. Most people in the world today are fluent in English, and if not English then Spanish.
It may take me some time to set up a board, but with co-operation from a cabinet of other aspies, we can set up a site, a treasury. This is imperative for the cause.
It won't work.........what about when we reproduce and NT's are the offspring and so on. I think this is a neat fantasy but it is just that.
There is a trend to hold back intelligent thought in society in general.
But its not totally new, in China many years ago they killed all the scientists as they thought that science was creating problems.
Amy,
The Cultural revolution, you mean? They did not exactly kill them all, but I know what you mean. They repressed freedom of thought, and "re-educated" the bourgeois scientists. And, the impulse to repress freedom of thought seems to be all the rage in certain circles.
The local Communist bookstore in Berkeley still thinks Mao was a great man...
All the best,
