NAAR are so uncaring and such inconsiderate nasties. They care of nothing but their founders' profits and run all these quack studies. They then make conclusions about us needing to be tortured by quack therapies and, in this case, be drugged so not to be a "disturbance".

I think that it won't be long now before most parents of autistics break out SSRIs (better referred to as "dope" if they do knock you out for that long).
bah... they can get stuffed!

ANTIDEPRESSANTS ARE, AND ALWAYS WILL BE TOTALLY USELESS! HOW DO I KNOW? PAXIL WAS THE FIRST EVER MEDICATION I TOOK, AND AFTER THE 4TH DAY, I GOT THIS HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE BRAIN ZAP PLUS A WHOLE POISONY FEELING IN MY WHOLE BODY! THIS WAS THE START OF MY PANIC DISORDER EXPERIENCES TOO!

INFACT, IF PAXIL DIDN'T HAVE SUCH A HORRIBLE AFFECT ON ME, I PROBABLY WOULDN'T HAVE NEEDED TO START WRITING MY WEBSITE, WHICH I STARTED WRITING ON AUGUST 13TH 2002, THE DAY AFTER I GOT MY FIRST MAJOR PANIC ATTACK!

btw my site used to be at (and still is at) http://www.geocities.com/supertechsavvy but is now at http://www.psychopanic.com

THE MEDICAL PROFESSION ARE A BUNCH OF WANKERS WHO STILL THINK MEDICATION CAN CURE EVERYTHING! IT IS  THEIR JOB TO SAVE MONEY AND NOT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT PEOPLE IN THE LONG RUN!

p.s. antipsychotics work tho, because my mind goes so fast that nothing else would slow it down.. Tongue

If anyone is interested in reading about the psuedoscience and corruption behind SSRIs and other anyi-depressant drugs they should read Chapter 2 of the book
"Selling sickness: how drug companies are turning us all into patients" by Ray Moynihan and Alan Cassels. Moynihan is an
Australian journalist with a long list of achievements.

The serotonin theory of depression that is the theoretical explanation for why SSRIs might work is still a controversial theory that has certainly not been scientifically proven. Chapter 7 about "Social Anxiety Disorder" is also worth a read. It appears that this is a "disorder" that was manufactured by drug companines in order to sell SSRIs such as Paxil, which has recognised very unpleasant side effects for some who take it, and is addictive, as it can cause severe withdrawl effects if users try to wean themselves off the drug.

In my eyes the psychiatric profession has barely any moral or scientific credibility. It has been a mere tool of unjust societies as much as a help or advocate of it's patients, it was dominated for decades by theoretical perspectives such as Freudian psychoanalysis, which has not a skerrick of scientific evidence of effectiveness or validity, it is a profession that has allowed the worst abuses of the rights of it's patients, it is a profession that individualises and medicalises genuine social and political problems that it's patients have, thus preventing or forestalling or any solutions to these problems, and now it is a "profession" that appears to have sold out lock, stock, and barrel to the pharaceutical multinational corporations. It's just a rubber-stamp for GlaxoSmithKline, Novartis, Lilly, Shire, Wyeth and all of their other powerful corporate sponsors.
my point EXACTLY! hallelujah!
Sibylle, I find it interesting that the things that you wrote about cholesterine (is this the same as cholesterol?) are pretty much the same as what Moynihan and Cassels wrote about high blood pressure in the book that I recommended earlier. Apparently the definition of high blood pressure has been expanded over the years to include more and more otherwise healthy people into the category of "high blood pressure sufferers", and some American authority is even recommending that children be screened for high blood pressure from the age of 3 years!
testing my new signature..+
What is TCPA, Kitkatsavvy?
oh yeah.. TCPA is the trusted computer platform alliance... to see the protest site go to http://www.againsttcpa.com

These things are precisely why the late Dr. Robert Mendelson (don't know if I spelled that right, he wrote 'How to raise a healthy child in spite of your doctor', for example) said to stay away from doctors and hospitals if you can. Because if you go to have a checkup every year (as recommended by those that would profit from it), they are likely to find something that 'needs' medicating, because you don't fit the preconceived ideas of what are 'normal' readings.

Of course, what is normal? It is what these 'experts' have decided is normal. That goes for physical, psychological or neurological 'illnesses', some of which are real, and many of which seem to be there only so the pharmaceutical companies and doctors can profit from these pseudo-diagnoses.

I am wondering if anyone has tried Dimethylglycine?
Apparently it improves the metabolic function. Some research says it improves verbal expression in autism. i personally ddo not want my verbal expression messed around with. But i think if my metabolic function was improved, but not sped up or slowed down, then many other processes might get a chance to improve. such as cholesterol conversion and amino acids etc. Not that i know much about that.
But i have a growing suspicioan that drug companies and doctors are pasying attention to the end result of malfunction and not to what may be changing somewhere else in the metabolic pathway itself.
That means we are all at the bottom of the cliff and the ambulance lands on us.
MAybe the doctors are innocent but ignorant. Maybe they just believe without questioning. Maybe they do not know how to think. I had a blood test and the technician made a comment about the necessity to repeat the test because it could change depending on many things. MAybe it costs too much.
Maybe it would cost less if more was spent on prevention instead of waiting until someone had got bad enough for a DX.
I should have put this on Rant thread Sad

How do you know for sure you are going to die? Do you wait until someone else tells you? Or do you wait til the heart rate or breathing stops? Can you be dead and alive at the same time?
This may seem to be sarcastic but it is not. I have seemn lots of people who do not kneo whether they are alive or dead.

I also took Paxil for a while during a bout of depression. I had one of those psychiatrists who is more interested in getting a check from the drug company than in how his paitents are really doing, or if they really NEED the drug. Here's an example, I mentioned that I have a family history of bipolar disorder and without asking if I even HAVE symptoms of it other than depression, he put me on Zyprexa which combined with the Paxil made me sleep so much, I actually missed at least one class. I called him up and had him take me off that drug.

I also know some mom who was originally taking her bipolar son to this prick, and he decided to put her on something. Every single visit was no more than 5 minutes, just enough time to write another prescription. It was a pain in the butt getting him to start weaning me off that drug, and there's NO WAY I'll ever go back to this quack.

I do have anxiety quite a bit, and if I go on something for that, I'm going to go with some other doctor, and tell my regular doctor to refer me to someone who isn't after the drug company's check. That episode with that quack occurred well before my Asperger's diagnosis, when at the time I had depression.
I don't think the doctors get paid directly by the drug companies. They might get gifts and favours from pharamceutical companies, and I've read that most doctors get visited regularly by drug companiy representatives (salesmen) who are full of charm and bull%&*# no doubt. Doctors and the public also get a barrage of drug company advertising either in direct form in print ads in medical journals and web sites, or indirectly through drug-company sponsored medical conferences, and press and TV media stories that are little more than re-worded drug company press releases. Many patient support and self-help groups are also heavily funded or influenced by drug companies. It would be interesting to know if any of this goes on in autism societies and support groups. I'd be surprised if it didn't.
Are you going to exclude NTs, or exclude NTs who don't share your point of view?
I wasn't raising the issue of you doing any diagnosing yourself. As you probably know I have a large degree of scepticism with regard to formal diagnosis, and have no intention of getting one myself.

Would your group welcome people who do not identify themselves as autistic in any way (but many be parents or spouses of autistics, or professionals of some kind)? Would your group tolerate any kind of member who isn't genuinely accepting of aspies/auties and AS/autism?
