Has anyone here been treated oddly by the Police because of AS?

Police officers are trained to pick up on such things as limited eye contact, odd repeated body motions (stimming in AS-speak), and so on.  These actions are regarded negatively, and may make an officer uncomfortable - while you may be explaining yourself very well verbally, to a cop who's trained in picking up on non-verbal communication (i.e. body-language), you are sending out the "wrong" signals.

...I might need to edit this post for clarity...
Nasssty polices.  I dressed up as Death once and wabdered around the streets of a tiny town at night with my halberd.  Crazy reporters started following me.  Cops broke into my house that night, stole my halberd and sent me to some useless shrinks.  Still haven't gotten it back :(
Do you mean a scythe?
No, didn't have a scythe, so I had to make do with a halberd.
You know what law they cited when telling me I wouldn't get it back?  It's illegal to openly bear a knife or similar sharp weapon in public areas.  A knife???
OK, so it's not a knife, but as far as sharp weapons go - that's a winner.

Not wanting to be a goody-two-shoes, but they could have pressed charges. Having never experienced prison I can only imagine that seeing a few head shrinkers is a lot better than doing porridge.

Umm, why did you dress up as death?
Greetings,

I tried joining the police last year - that was nothign short of disastrous Tongue

Other than that - I find dealing with them is very aquard.  I cant explain myself very well either.
Let me rephrase my original post...

What I meant to ask is this: during routine stops (such as being pulled over for speeding), have the police treated you differently than they would have treated a NT?

The warning signs that police officers look for are limited eye-contact, repeated body movements, etc.  At least for me, these actions are a given due to AS.  Therefore my actions were interpereted negatively - i.e. the officer assumed I was lying or had something to hide.

As for the Death example...it didn't seem to have too much with being an Aspie.  I believe a NT would have been questioned as well.
LOL, Are we talking about a real halberd here?

I take your point 650whatever, but in my experience cops tend to "act" mean and suspicious anyway in cetain circumstances, so it would be hard to tell how much effect it would have.

On the few times I got pulled for speeding I found no problem whatsoever in making eye contact anyway; it's only in routine social activities it causes difficulties for me. UK cops in any case are trained to be extra calm and non-judgemental if they find the perp is acting "strangely".

The rules are simple; remain polite, don't lose your cool! If it goes haywire anyway, then your lawyers should have a field day!
Some Aspies find it difficult to get a lawyer either because of lack of funds or the social skills required to organise an appointment in the first place or both. I understand in some places that people can be assigned a lawyer if they are under a certain income level.
The police officers that I have encountered have almost all been strange. They aint the smartest, I think. They can bully you but if you bully back or act smart with them they can blow up.
I have got out of a few speeding tickets due to my matter of fact speech and honesty. I always get out of the car and approach them ( rather than sit in the car and let them approach me ) and it seems to take some of their authority away, or maybe it's just been luck.
i cant stand police, they give me funny looks and never listen to me. they treat me like im "below them" and i hate their despicable attitude. they're Supposed to be working for the public, not Working the public.
When I deal with police, I'm generally treated very well because I'm honest and polite to them, despite my lack of social graces.  I did, however, get pulled over for a bum taillight once and due to my nervousness the cop felt he had to search my car.  I wasn't even speeding because it was a snowstorm, but I had a black Dodge Spirit with no hubcaps, and in retrospect I suppose that is kind of a shady looking car.

And Michael 1 - I don't know how you get away with that.  Cops in Michigan wouldn't put up with that, they'd tell you to get back in the car or you're going to jail.  Where on Earth do you live, that the cops let you bereave them of one of the few major points of authority they wield?
I live in England.
where i live police are Seriously like "stop it- or ill shoot!" and get away with it.

*** bugger corrupt cop bags of ****.
i cannot stand cops here they are SO on a power trip, they arrest people for Nothing, they killed an 88 or 92 (i forget) year old woman too because of the "war on drugs." just sayin'
