Many aspies don't believe or don't want to believe that vaccines preserved with thimerisol cause autism. I think we need to question or beliefs. Why don't we want this to be true? If it is true then it means we are damaged or defective and not merely different.
These NT parent behave worse than us. they threaten and harass. We dont do that
and yet we are the ones with a social deficit????
These militant NTs like schafer and others that threaten others , have always treated us bad , and it was ok. now they are treating othe NTs bad as well, and it is being reported on
theospoh, why do we need to question our beliefs?
Some have said that folic acid is a cause of autism, some have said MMR, some have said being spoiled as a child, should we constantly question ourselves with each new quack theory?

Because such beliefs could blind us to the truth. You don't want to believe in the thimersol link and dismiss it as a quack theory. I'm at least keeping my mind open to it and not dismissing as quack science because it makes me feel uncomfortable.
Its not a case of just choosing not to believe something, for me personally.
I have studied all the supposed proof in depth, and read all the new information too.
I have then come to a conclusion based on logic.
Symptoms of mercury poisoning are not even similar to autism.
I have made a post in against pro-cure groups section on the symptoms of mercury poisoning.
If new theories were not paraded out every week, people would not be so jaded with the hype, and could better make educated decisions.
Parents with children who have been newly diagnosed face an onslaught of conflicting information, epidemic talk, quack cures, and ultimately the children suffer.
The autism thimersol link is not a new theory nor one completely without the backing of scientific evidence. The fact that you dismiss it as such makes me believe you have a personal bias against it. I don't want to get into an argument on whether or not the theory is true because I don't know if it is or not. I'm just wondering why so many are vehemently against it such as yourself. You say you came to this belief logically but the proponents of the theory could say their own position is logical.
Why do I have a personal bias against it?
Aren't I as capable as anyone else as making a decision based on the facts?
Proponents of the theory may say that there stance is logical, does that mean that they have a personal bias toward it? There are many who are seeking financial compensation from vaccine manufacturers.
"Sure but your decision is not a fact."
Its a personal opinion, which I believe. What makes something a fact?

Yes there is bias either way. Absolute belief or disbelief in something indicates bias."
If you don't believe that the moon in made of cheese, is that a bias? You can absolutely disbelieve something that you feel has no credibility, does that make it a bias?
Not in the true sense of the word.
"I knew you would respond with something like this. I didn't mean ridiculous examples like these. I meant absolute belief or disbelief in theories not myths or superstitions. The belief that the moon is made out of cheese hase been proven to be false so it is not a theory."
You are more psychic than me then, I had no idea that you meant your statement so specifically, also isn't whether something is a theory or myth subjective?
According to some mercury is 100% the cause of autism, and they believe that autism does not exist, does that mean that autism is a myth?
One specific group that calls autism itself a myth is generation rescue.
They feel that it has been proven beyond any doubt.
"I just want to know the reasons behind all the bias on both sides."
You could try emailing generation rescue and asking them. It would be interesting to see their response.
Isn't this whole thing just another example of whipped-up hysteria by the mass media? I would certainly be sceptical of this new theory about what causes autism and still think it is a genetic condition more than anything else.
NO it is not!!!!
These are the same so called parents that trash us. They tell people in congress , commerce how awful we are. They play on sympathy that they are the victims. They have more rights to speak out on the issue and implying we are not right in the head. They are vicious. Objective observers often pointed to us saying that we were being insensitive to their pain. Look at what they did to amy harmon when she did not pull the party line. Look at cris italia, a so called impartial reporter that only wants to hear what he wants to hear. look at schafer who make fun of us calling us asparagus instead of aspergian. These are vicious and hateful people. Now they are turning their attention elsewhere and not at us.
Now people are gonna see the side that we only saw until now.

To the best of my knowledge, it is genetic but might certainly be worsened by poor environments.
I agree tenaciouscj, I believe autism is genetic because I see it in my family.
Susie Kelly of Laurel, Del., says her son, Mark, 10, loves Nintendo and videos, and he likes to swim. But he has to sit in the same place every day to put his shoes on, has to exit through the same door he entered, and he doesn't like surprises. On a recent family trip to Mexico, she says, "he got upset when it rained, because it's not supposed to rain in Mexico."
I can't believe these parents. Just because their child doesn't behave the way others do and just because they have a routine that works for them, they'd rather think them brain damaged or diseased instead of seeing them as neurologically different? What is it that is so great about the neurotypical lifestyle that everyone should just run and jump in line?
Personally, I'd just rather stay monastic than "jump in line"! I can't believe people would rather think their children are defective than even try and consider the fact that there may just be another way of doing things or another way of viewing the world. It may take a little bit more energy or effort sometimes, to raise autistic children but is that such a bad thing, especially when they offer so much to the world in the way of insight? As for the rain in Mexico, I suppose it would have been unthinkable to talk about this theory with the child....sheese, some parents! I hate that whole "Do-it-this-way, because-I-say-so" way of parenting.
My guess is that autism and asperger's are likely to be genetically caused, the only thing about vaccines is that I ended up with mumps because the vaccine I got was from a bad batch. I don't believe that vaccines cause autism or asperger's, there hasn't been enough evidence to satisfy me in this case. In fact, most of what I've read on the link is that there is no link between vaccines and these conditions. Personally, I think the risks of getting the diseases prevented from the vaccines are worse than the drugs themselves. The community as a whole is put at risk when someone doesn't get innoculated against diseases, they may transmit the disease to others.
I was diagnosed as an adult with Asperger's but what likely caused it was infant epilepsy that had no known cause, yet stopped on its own after about a year. After the age of almost 2, I've been seizure-free.
"What will they blaim mercury on next? The common cold? Headaches?"
I heard it caused 'media hype'....must some new kind of illness...
The DSM IV criteria for 'Media Hype' states -
This pervasive disorder is becoming widepsread, it may be contagious through 'word of mouth'. There is currently no known treatment other than taking a 'pinch of salt'.
To be diagnosed with this disorder there must be two or more of the following conditions present -
*Distinct lack of logic
*Lack of ability to analyse basic statistics
*Tendency to exaggerate
*Gullibility
*The desire to make money from spouting crummy stories
