On  BBC1 on 28th June at 10.35 p.m, the forty minute  programme "ONE life - The Twin Who Could Only Scream", follows Thomas, a four-year-old autistic boy through the Son-Rise 'treatment'.

According to the Radio Times, "as a portrait of an ordinary couple's brave response to a parental nightmare, it should be powerful stuff."
Hmmm, I hope it doesn't give the impression that any developing that the child did was solely down to the programme, and not due to natural development.

The NAS did a study some months ago that looked at 2 children who had therapy, one of which was son rise or similar, and the third child has no therapy. They didn't find any benefit of those who had treatment over the child had none.

Did anybody see that show, I thought it was on a different night and missed it.

I saw it, and that was exactly the impression that was given.

Other objections I had were that Thomas was characterised as "violent" early on, he was clearly no more so than any other child.  He had the occasional tantrum but that was it.  And there was no autistic person to comment upon the proceedings.

Thanks for telling something about the show, I hope it will be repeated at some point.

I know that on parents forums they often tape such shows and send it around so members can see it, so it can be a big influence to the people who are most likely to try a therapy like son-rise.
I wonder what happened to Raun Kahlil, the boy who was first treated using the Son-Rise system back in the 70's. It would be really interesting to find out how he is coping as an adult. He would now be in his 30's.

The treatment must have done some good if it is still being offered today?

He is now a walking advertisement for Son-Rise, claiming that he was cured of autism by this miraculous treatment and that he would otherwise have ended up in an institution drooling on himself, etc.

If he really believed that garbage, I would feel sorry for him, but it's obvious he's just in it for the money.  Son-Rise is still in business because of its aggressive advertising, not because it accomplishes anything that parents couldn't do.

If you have a look at the main son-rise website, it is marketed furiously.
Try posting a question about son-rise on the forum that they have, if it is not wholly in favour of son-rise it will be quickly deleted and you will be banned.
I don't believe he is cured of his autism but he has probably learnt a lot of strategies to deal with it. These kinds of strategies would not be unique to the son-rise programme.
If anybody's interested this programme will be repeated at about 1.15am on Thursday 28th July on BBC1's Sign Zone.
Thanks matt, I will record it.
