What are your favorite development tools, and what are your main reasons for using them? Myself, I use GCC (Linux) and it's MinGW port (windows) as C/C++ compiler, and gVim as universal text editor. (I so far haven't programmed in any other language since a long time ago, when I experimented with BASIC. I do however code XHTML and PHP for my site.)
I tried Dev-C++ before, but I decided to stick to using a text editor and compile by command line, since I didn't find using Dev-C++ any better, and in fact clumsier. Since then I haven't tried any other IDEs.
I used XEmacs for quite a while before switching to gVim. The main reasons for switching was that XEmacs kept getting extremely slow after being open for more than a couple of hours and an annoying bug caused it to crash at times. I must say after switching, that I find gVim to in overall be better. Before that, before I began learning C++ and using Linux irregularly, I used UltraEdit for general text editing.
Note to a certain AFF admin: Since you apparently find the manliness of the things you use important, (atleast as far as programming languages and OSes goes) here is your chance to comment on the manliness of all the development tools mentioned in this thread, and: 1. Boost the egoes of the the people on this board who use the "manliest" tools; 2. Boost your own ego when people (atleast) appear to care (slightly) about your opinion on the manliness of the mentioned tools.
