I Have a Mac, but only because that's the only one U.T. would give me for free (apparently they didn't want it either Rolleyes Shy Rolleyes Shy ), but my favorite is Windows- It's just more user-friendly, less prone to problems, and DEFINITLEY has more software.
Poll: Which OS do you like / use / want most?

Sorry guys , but I see 3 questions:
Which OS do you like most?
Which OS do you use most?
Which OS do you want most?
and radio buttons (so only one vote)

I like Gem
I use 98SE, XP, XPPro
I want Linux

Hi,

I'm curious about this to find out whether ASpies tend to use open source OSes more than NTs. Please don't flame me for the poll choices :-)

Regards,

James

Hmmm... nope.  I don't really like open source OSes.  I prefer Windows XP.

I wonder if it's possible to have more than one OS on one computer.

Yes, you can... like the computer I'm currently on has both Windows and Linux on it. My husband leaves Windows on it because it's occasionally useful. You can even have more than two operating systems on one computer...

I bought a Mac (iBook) 3 years ago but I don't particularly like it... I now want a computer with windows and linux on it.

I don't do that well with PCs. My career and Special Interest for 25 years has been main frame computers. I adore IBM AS/400 iSeries operating system.  It is like a best friend. We undersand each other.
My new laptop runs on a manipulated Windows XP Professional ( I changed some of the acessibility features, screen reading, and organization etc. because I use some assitive technology features). The college that gave me uses Windows but I'd prefer Linux (being able to manipulate programming codes etc. to my liking and better security) or a Mac OS (graphic design and better security).
To be honest, I use Windows, simply because I never tried to install anything else.
I run fife computers at home, all connected through a home-network.
Most of the parts are from the junk, so I'm facing many hardware-changes.
The easiest way to cope with this is Windows, although the whole family suffers from server-restarts and crashes.
Which reminds me a joke of one of our technicians:
What to do after a Windows-crash?

Call for the glazier!

well...nowadays i run...

Three XP machines, one desk, one laptop, one a baby ATX..which i no longer have a plug for Sad
One quad cored (=D) Vista Ultimate machine
One seven node Beowulf cluster running a Knoppix distro
One Unix Fileserver
One ancient laptop running 98
one Mac running OS9
One XBAR (PSP)
One Dashboard (Xbox360)
One what-ever-the-hell-the-Wii-is
Two what-ever-the-hell-the-DS-is
Unfortunately I live in the land of MS (Pacific NW -- Microsoft is my neighbor). One of my jobs was supporting a MS Windows Network for several thousand users... I've been assimilated ...

There were those that resisted... who were either absorbed or chose to depart... I wish I knew more about alternative systems.

My preference is XP Pro (no choices)...

O_O
*jaw drops*

what? Tongue

I like computers.. ^_^
I voted for Mac OS, though for me it's a tough choice between Mac OS and Linux.  Right now it's just Mac because my Linux box fried a hard drive and I haven't felt like messing with it.  Also, my desk is cluttered enough as it is and I only feel like dealing with one computer at this time.

Mac OS has the best of both worlds, most of the familiar popular apps for internet and mundane stuff, and also all the fun Unix free compilers and command-line stuff there if I want to see it.

Eventually, I'll get back into Linux when I'm ready to build another computer from scratch with my own choice of "bells and whistles".
I use Ubuntu on my main desktop, just because it's so simple and nice; I can't find a single flaw.
I have FreeBSD for a webserver and it has never once gone down in months of uptime. FreeBSD is hands down the most stable OS I know of.
I haven't used a Windows computer in years and I'm very proud of it.
I am a fan of mac though, since it's based on and they contribute to Darwin.
