Hi,
I'm curious about this to find out whether ASpies tend to use open source OSes more than NTs. Please don't flame me for the poll choices :-)
Regards,
James
Well, only a year ago ro so I found open source software. But only till ow have i started using it and playing about with it. As you'll see with Redhat 9.
My desktop Is windows though. I mainly becuase i want to run windows programs such as Paint shop Pro and Games such as Battlefeild Veitnam.
On my laptop since its soooo old. I placed FreeDos on that, And was playing old dos games and so on. Then i got 98se working on it, but still little ram, since i try reducing the Vertual memory to 20mb. But it would refuse to lauch any programs due to low memory. So of course runs dam slowely than it really should.
So i use Windows!
Have the two of you using Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop ever tried the GIMP? (
http://www.gimp.org). If so what do you think of it?
Cheers,
James
I prefer, and use Linux, the only reason being is that it's far more stable than windows. I was using windows 98se
...
I use Windows at work, either Windows 95, Windows ME, or Windows XP, depending on the computer i'm using which sucks big time
Windows 95, 98, 98se, ME, etc are all really Windows 3.1 and they all suck. Please don't judge Windows by these steaming turdpiles.
Windows 2000, XP, 2003, etc are real operating systems, which nothing Microsoft release prior to Windows NT was.
What? Only 2 people picked MacOS (and I'm one of them who just voted). Okay okay this subforum is for true geeks, which rules me out. I like Macs because they are intuitively easy to use and all the software that I've been using forever still works. I also use Linux a lot to run programs using command lines, which is great. I'm not a programmer--my life would be SO much better if I knew how to write Perl scripts. I got about as far as "Hello world."
I use OSX at collage,XP, 98, Slackware linux and the occational linux boot CD, but I want to get an apple running OSX and get OS2 WARP 4, but IBM are stopping it this month... if anybody knows of any english torrents, plz tell me!

I use Windows XP, mainly because it's not really my computer, and I would rather use a real computer instead of a mac. I wanna play games and draw in Photoshop, you know?
photoshop is FAR more powerful on a mac, and you can play games on them, certanly Halo was relieced, as was farcry, sim city 4 and others.
Mac's rule
OSX kicks glutimus maximus

NEVER tell me that a PC running any type of windoze other than 3.1 is better than its equivilent in the Mac world
for one thing:
windows XP viri - over 1000
OSX viri - 2

Ooookay, that's what I call over-reacting. If I wanna play more games than Warcraft 3 and Sim City 4 it's my own problem, okay? You don't have to go all wacky for it.
Look, I don't feel like another one of those pointless Mac vs Windows arguments again. You can use macs as much as you want to, it doesn't bother me, but I prefer PCs, okay? I'm not in the mood for this.
Home OS: Windows XP. I do website development, so I need Photoshop for graphic design and Internet Explorer to test my pages (I use Firefox otherwise). And when I'm not working, I enjoy playing Battlefield 2.
Server OS: Linux all the way! I find it easy to administer, highly versatile, runs extremely well even on low-end hardware, and is extremely reliable.

Another Mac user here. The OS I was most familiar with was OS 7.5.3. I started using Macs for purely arty purposes and its what colleges used in those days in the UK (Thank goodness IMHO) and I also found it intuitive.
Now using OS x.
When I started using photoshop it didn't have colour management! I have designed web sites and used quark/ indesign and lots of other stuff (and stuff like wondered if you could write love poetry in javascript, but didn't have the time to explore that) without really thinking of myself as being that technically proficient, I can do stuff but it takes me longer because I want to get it just so. I focus on details that other people may not notice.
Allriiiiiiiiiiigggggggggghhhttt!
Laptop: Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft
Desktop #1: Fedora Core 3
Desktop #2: Windows XP
Server: Debian 3.1
At the moment I am using Windows XP. Although I have used Linux in the past (Fedora Core, Ubuntu, Debian, even Slackware).
My reservations about Linux is not the kernel which is great or even Xorg. It what runs on top of it the Applications and Desktop Environments, which a lot copy from Windows and lesser degree MacOS.
