I have a friend who supports himself doing freelance copy editing from home. I believe he started out working for a company and then the company allowed him to work from home later on as an independent agent. most of the work he does still comes from them.

I do ebay selling...I sell mainly children's gently used "boutique" and Eurpoean clothing, used books, vintage American pottery and discontinued patterns of stainless steel flatware. Supply problems mean that I cannot make enough to live on my own....but it can be good supplemental income.  I agree that difficult customers can make ebay selling awful, but over the years I've noticed patterns and polished my techniques to the point where I can avoid attracting troublemakers. The irate people are now few and far between for me. The hardest part of the job for me is having to go to the post office regularly...though I love the new automated teller machines! I also have to take frequent breaks. Keeping a constant supply of auctions going becomes overwhelming after a while.

I tried babysitting for money once...nightmare. The parents took total advantage of me, didn't pay me, and I didn't know how to get myself out of the situation!
