Can anyone drive a car?
These events usually have a 'pit stop' for people to get drinks to refresh themselves. That would be a good stop to stand nearby with posters/banners.

Or stand at the finish line/end point and have some at the start point too.
And maybe do something a little more... audacious to say the least which I'll explain at the Wedensday meeting. I suspect that if I posted it up and some enterprising member of CAN saw it , they might take a lot of precautions which could spoil things. However bear in mind the phrases: "Safety Car" and "Person who can legally drive" and all will become a little clearer.

By the way this is definitely something I wouldn't do personally even if I could being the politician that I am, but for the "activists" among you it might be fun and effective way.
I once ran in a road race where people came out the night before with buckets of sidewalk chalk and wrote amusing comments and ditties along the course.

Might be something to consider, especially if you have any poetically inclined people there.  There's a lot of stuff that rhymes with CAN...

How about something like this?

Quote:
To CAN --
How do I despise thee? Let me count thy (extremely ignorant) ways.
I despise thee to the amount of ignorance
You bestow on the world with your nasty lies
The stench often lingers around months after.
I despise thee to the decibel response of you causing
Autistic people to cry because of your incredible level of ignorance.
(And that's very loud!)
If thee (Cure Autism now) can't understand this, get a dictionary!
It's not our fault you have no intelligence whatsoever!

Or is that too long?

Mich, that would use a LOT of chalk!

Well, it would be excellent to use, wouldn't it?

Ok seeing as my idea got partial approval I'll put it up for display. One warning though. When thinking up this plan I did without looking the American highway code so if this idea is in breach of traffic laws then firstly I apologise to the US authorities, secondly and more importantly the plan is CANNED.  :!:

I seriously don't want people losing their licence , getting fined, or getting points on their licence etc because of me as I know how valuable the freedom of the road is to people.

Anyway what you'll need is someone who can drive with a good degree of skill and a car (ASman or Antelucid this might be one for you to join. What you've got to do is to firstly find a point to get in front of the ride. Then drive ahead at a safe distance from the cyclists with hopefully posters or whatever on the back giving a clear protest. Finally you've got to know when to quit and drive off as going in front of the "peloton" for the whole course might be an extremely bad idea as they could get your licence number, etc .

This plan is effective if you want to force a confrontation ( :!: for better or worse) by making CAN acknowledge your prescence at least for a few kilometers. This in can be done in conjunction with any protest Catffienated and co do whether it be chalking the road (if that can't be classed as vandalism) or whether it's handing out leaflets.

However apart from being unsure of the legal technicalities I also found another problem: the whole thing is reliant on CAN having a planned route on display. Secondly that route isn't in pedestrianised areas (where cars can't go). I'm sure that there are other difficulties that I haven't covered but if it's legal then more likely than not it's possible.

Nobody goes to jail or in trouble for writing chalk statements on the road. In fact in NYC(manhattan) you can see chalk outlines of people who were killed by cars with their name and date they were killed as sort of rememberance.

That might still be against the law though - one could see the police turning a blind eye to it.

A counterexample: a while ago, to advertise their MSN products, Microsoft stuck rainbow-coloured plastic butterflies to the buildings and the pavements, and I think that was in New York too. They got fined and told to remove them all.

I'm not so sure the police would like the idea of someone disrupting a "charity"/"benevolent" event, I'd imagine they'd be pretty strict.

Yo then again

I want to use that freedom sig. Where can I get mine?

I like that aspergian one too. i tried to contact edan to no avail
Apparently the twin thread is an ancient symbol, so Edan has no copyright hold over it.
He would have over the word 'aspergia' in theory as he did invent it. As far as I know it was not in use before he used it.

Wow that is extreme. Of course they really should have been asking for a 'brown coloured beverage that rots your teeth'.
