I've had Asperger syndrome my entire life, and I can't seem to think how it's a positive thing. With Asperger syndrome, simple things like a teacher walking by your desk causes anxiety. I have NO friends, never been on a date, and can't seem what else God gave me other than my astonishing intelligence. I excel in mathematics, english, science, and remembering trivial facts. Despite these abilities, I'm completely unskilled with basic social interaction i.e. saying hello or goodbye to someone. The school psychologist at my school tells me that with practice, my social deficits can be overcame. I received at-home therapy for about a year, because of personal issues, the services were discontinued last month. I'm actually a little sad about not getting a chance to say goodbye to the 34 year-old that worked with me and my brother, because she was a cool lady and now I can't look forward to her 1-hour sessions anymore. *sighs* Honestly, I felt closer to that worker than with any student.
These are common Aspie problems, I believe you are in the right place to receive support. There are alot of people here who are smarter and speak more eloquently than I , and can probably give better advice. I am sure they will be joining in as soon as they see your post. Good luck to you and welcome to AFF
Do you have any opportunities to go along to clubs with others of your age group who are similarly gifted in maths, English, science? You may find it easier to get along with others who share your interests and skills levels.
As for the lady who used to tutor you...why don't you send her a card to say how much you appreciated the time she spent with you and your brother?

I don't consider the aspies a curse, but a blessing as I can look at things in a different light. But I consider high level intelligence a curse as one can easily see things and grasp concepts and that tends to make enemies.

I like a quote by Oscar Wilde (I think) who said that forward thinkers tend to see things by moonlight, whereas the general population have to wait for the new day to dawn before they can see the same thing.

At least my intelligence is welcomed for research. It just irritates the hell out of everyone else except other researchers. I always have the feeling no-one really understands what it is like.
That is everyone thinks I am weird and different. Even my wife and kids sometimes. And that is not due to the aspies. I guess I will never fit into mainstream ever one way or the other.
Like who can I talk to and discuss what I am doing? Just fellow scientists in the same area of research and that is small.
Did some more work on the project molecule that is to be synthesized for the first time. All out of my head. Next task is to develop a method to make it and how to test it to see it has been made.
All goes well should have something that can easily show up blockages in blood vessels under MRI without side effects. Into the great unknown I go.
I don't think anything is a curse. There are no curses.

Wow, go you! That's so impressive, just think how many people's lives can be saved or improved if your idea works. I love hearing about the successes we have on this site and affirms that our way of looking at the world is truly valid, since we can see things outside the "box".
Although I know what you mean about talking to people: that startled-rabbit-caught-in-the-headlights look is something I'm used to when talking to others, as well. Luckily my husband is also my best friend, and he just thinks it's charming when I go on about things. He feeds my addiction, as it were, by encouragement and finding out all he can about my interests, as well, so I make the same effort with his interests.
Do let me know about how your research goes. Great stuff!

Somehow, I think without aspies and leaving things up to the pure, social, NT's we would be sitting around the campfire (started from lightning) talking about the days hunt. i think the aspies way of thinking brought things forward. Pretty well everyone is likely to have some aspies trait now anyway. Well I think so anyway.
