I've written a short piece on APD here: http://www.kevinleitch.co.uk/wp/index.php?p=206

I'm also after a bit of help. I'd really like to hear autistics speaking about what APD means to them on a personal level and what sort of prejudice they hope it will help overcome.

What I want to do is feature a piece from someone every day until the 18th. Doesn't have to be really long, but it can be if you like. I want the people who visit my blog to hear from an autstic rather than just the parent of an autistic.

If you have anything you'd like to say or talk about please post it here or mail it to me kevleitch@gmail.com I see this as an opportunity to get the idea of APD out to people who wouldn't otehrwise hear it.

Thanks.
Hi Kev, I think this is a great idea.  Here are some links to pages that discuss issues of prejudice and discrimination from an autistic person's point of view:

Why Disability Rights Are Not Enough

Passing for Neurotypical

You Want to Take Away My Window

And of course, Michelle Dawson's site, No Autistics Allowed.

I noticed that you started by featuring an article by Amanda Baggs.  Good choice.  She's an excellent author and doesn't flinch from writing about ugly situations.
Kev, I'm pressed for time (busy doing stuff for World Environment Day coming up), but I've had a quick look at your piece, and I like the way you compared our situation with that of gays in times past. The other night I watched a documentary on the history of the G/L community in Australia. It showed a gay man being given electric shock aversion "therapy" while watching suggestive pictures. I though it was ironic that people are probably shocked that this was done in the 70s, while this kind of thing is still being done to autistics. Have you read this document? http://www.neurodiversity.com/library_rekers_1974.html
Were you aware of this strong link between the treatment of gays and the treatment of autistics?

You want to link to pieces by autistics. Does that include self-diagnosed autistics?
