A popup blocker, built in google.com and dictionary.com thingies, being able to view various pages in the same window, a snazzy download manager, yes it was perfect.  I could not have asked for a better browser.  However, recently the download manager and other similar features stopped working.

I then noticed that they stopped working AFTER a ph00l on MSN supplied a hyperlink to Windows Update, as I complained that the Windows Update feature in the XP Start Menu forced me to use MSIE, and thus forcing me to endure hideously annoying popups, etc etc.  Of course I clicked the link, because I prefer Mozilla.  The page the link linked to said that I needed IE 5.0 or higher to complete the update, so i just closed the window.  Anyway now the download manager doesn't work, and I did like it, as all my downloads could be viewed in the same window, and that they stayed there until I decided to delete them
So I would like help on how to fix this.  (I've tried several uninstallations, including one by using the uninstall application (which only deleted C:\program files\Mozilla Firefox) and one by using the same uninstall programme and then deleteing everything out of the directory %AppData%\Mozilla)  And the problem still exists.
Please help if you can
Welcome to the club brother; for my next build I'm going to give serious thought to going to linux (maybe Suse as Gareth suggested, though there seem to be quite a few good ones out there according to what I've read in the French mags like Lindows, Mandrake etc.,). It seems that as fast as one finds a solution for MS's ills, MS go and replace it with yet another. I've "removed" IE from my box, but my ISP uses it as default, so if I try using their e-mail service (or mozillas, which goes the same route) I get a ghost version of IE again, and immediately get inundated with TCP calls (whatever they are) on my windows explorer.

Thank God for Yahoo, google etc.!
I foudn the problem  Big Grin  it was only because some popup blocker had been turned on (not Firefox's intergrated one of course, but a seperate oen that came with the new (120GB) hard disk I got).

On MSN Messenger Gareth advised Mandrake, because I asked him which distro would replace Windows the best.  Mandrake is also apparently the easiest to use and install, and comes with lots of software.  oh and in Fance you can buy computers with Mandrake pre-installed

Did you check the spec   OK for somebody really strapped for cash (err...like me in fact! Well if this box goes west, why not?).
I now advise PC-BSD (http://www.pcbsd.org)
Well fo course if you goto the high street computer shops like curries ect... Apart form being ripped off. They'll come with windows XP hoem edition. But i know an online shop Where i buy me computer gear from. Sells pre-built computers with mandrake installed. But mainly left blank.
