In the movie Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, there is a character named Eric Applebaum who has some autistic traits. I will list them here:

  • Speaks in a relative monotone throughout the movie
  • Prefers to do things by himself
  • Doesn't socialize much
  • When he does try to make a friend, it's with an adult
  • When asked questions, he answers them literally

Let me know if you have any more reasons he may be autistic or have anything that disproves this theory.
So sorry, I have not seen it yet, so no idea!
Shame. Hope you see it soon, Korrigan. It's an excellent movie and I hope you like it.
Well, I can't very well answer this. I have not seen the movie, and only the writer of this character has the final say.

That being said, he likes hats... that sounds like a special interest to me...
I could not decide whether to check Yes or No. I did see the movie a while ago and I thought that the writer(s) had the image of an autistic child before the eyes while creating Eric.

On the other hand, they tuned Eric to be mass-compatible and NT-adorable/-likable.

So, it is a Nes or Yo for me.

Kinda nice movie, though.
*Gives Scooter a "WTH?!" look* If you haven't seen the movie, how do you know that Eric likes hats? Good point about it being a special interest. Another reason to think that Eric is autistic. I know that only the writer has the final say. I just thought it would be lovely to discuss it here since we have limited oppurtunity to speak with the writer.
His character name at IMDB is "Eric, the hat collector". I tried to research the movie before I posted here.
It's nice that you tried to research the movie, but it would be even nicer to watch the movie. So that's how you know that Eric collects hats. There's this funny scene where Eric shows someone his hat collection and it's practically covering the walls!
My mom watched this recently, and I saw bits and pieces of it.  I had a feeling he might be autistic from the bits I saw, and when I saw all the hats, I thought "Oh yes, he's autistic" Smile
I highly recommend that you watch the whole thing. It's really great. By the eponine, I love the name. Did you get it out of Les Miserables?

Of courseBig Grin  Special interest...or addiction, depends who you askWink

That's cool. I got mine out of Sweeney Todd. I am so obsessed with that movie, I've seen it 6 times already. I made a joke in one thread about EvilZakkie having Mrs. Lovett as his personal chef and getting the kids for his As-pies from Sweeney Todd.
