Recently when I power my machine up, the HDD light comes on as normal, but then goes off and it doesn't flicker regularly like it's supposed to when accessing the hard disks.
This has been like this for a few weeks. I tried re-installing Windows XP and that didn't cure it!
Any help would be great - I'm using an ASRock K7S8XE motherboard with an AMD Athlon XP+ 2600 processor.
It's for sure not a problem of your windows installation.
It seems to be a M/B issue.
If you still can access all your HDDs, I wouldn't care about it too much.
The only thing is, it's useful for telling when you can safely hard-powerdown your computer with minimal risk to the drive.
I'd say firmware issue
if you hard-powerdown your computer that much then the computer mafia needs to go after you.
uhm.
have you tried....
1) changing the (assuming SATA) ports that each HDD is plugged into?
2) ensuring that the light cable is properly inserted.
does it stop flashing past a certain point? more information is required.

1) I'm using IDE - motherboard doesn't have SATA ports.
2) It lights up when first powered, but goes off a few seconds and does not flicker as usual.
